While I don't have a problem with spiders (I actually think jumping spiders to be cute), my brother literally freaks at the sight of them.
The other day he encountered (close up) a breed seen here in Texas that builds these huge, inelegant webs. The ugly brute looked to be 4" across. Oh ... to have had a minicam....

I'm not some testosterone-fueled behemoth, but it does fill me with some macho-pride when Mrs. Gav shrieks for me when a spider attacks her in the shower or something.
It's a cup and tissue paper to the rescue!

The spider above my shower is now dead, but I found his Super Giant Cousin lurking around the toilet the other night. After putting him into a (large) glass and watching him wave his fiendish legs at me I throw him outside.
Meanwhile the tarantulas will soon be on there way...

About the claw they found ... the mudbug needn't have been that big. It may have been a male of a species with enlarged claws (or claw) for mating related purposes.

These adverts are beginning to frighten me. I've just clicked on a thread started by Ralph and its headed by a series of adverts starting with the name 'Ralph'.

At the moment there is an add at the top of this thread for "Excellent Spider Repellers" which may just be the most apt add we have had on New Hub.
(There is also one for remote-controlled tarantulas. Which concerns me deeply - I didn't know that Bio-Drone technology was that advanced.....)

We ought to have a seperate thread to discuss the ads at the top of the page as this seems to be getting out of hand. I shudder to think what ads we'll have if somebody starts up a thread with an adult-orientated title.

Long-term Hubbers may recall that for many years I have been taunted by Bastard Bob the spider, who lives in the bathroom. He has been absent since before this current incarnation of the Hub. But there I was taking a whizz and in full flow when suddenly he leapt up the wall!
HE!
WAS!
BACK!
And I was powerless! I willed my bladder to seal up as I darted around the room looking for the Magic Glass And Paper with which to trap the slavering beast!
By now he was darting up the wall with the speed of Batman. The many-legged fiend! Eater of brains! I'll get you, Bob! You will not escape me THIS TIME!
Quicker than venetian blinds, the trap was sprung! Bob was snared! Thus, before he could drill out, he was removed from the premises!
Never to return!
NEVER!
I got him! But good!

Is Bob female? Female spiders can live decades.
They always come back.

You got that close - striking distance?! Striking Distance to a spider is about ten metres as far as I am concerned - ideal distance for a ten gauge shot round to bracket it nicely........ Karl

"Eater of brains!" Brillaint! That's just what Mrs Shockprowl would say. She hates Spiders. Boy oh boy does she hate 'em. I don't love 'em, but I do respect them as a creature. Clever, strong and they eat freakin' flies.

I suspect Bob will be back soon. Dave the probably dead bluebottle is hanging around near the the throne. I am too freaked out to touch it. Will Bob be able to resist this feast?
