I'll kindly ask folk to keep rumours about who is or isn't involved running this convention off the board until the folk involved in TF Nation reveal themselves. Any posts speculating about specific people will be removed. I'm sure no-one would mean anything untoward but we all know how such comments can be misconstrued in personal ways on the information superhighway. Thanks all. -Ralph Did I miss something?

I am seriously considering giving TF-Nation a go next year. I'll need to see how things stand nearer the time because it depends on whether I'm working, where I'm working and if I'm in the middle of moving from here to there ("No. Telling you, door going there to here. Not here to there" - to paraphrase a GRRM character). But after giving it some thought I've decided that at this stage in my Recovery I kind of regret that I won't be at AA this year, and that I may have had the right amount of "time out" from it. Ithas also occurred to me that the location by the airport might actually be fortuitous for me - when I feel like stretching my legs I can always wander up to where the engine noise is, which would work for me quite well.

I get the feeling they may have announced it sooner than planned (perhaps they thought the cat was about to come out of the bag anyway)? If nothing else it seems a bit odd to not take straight up advantage of the swell of interest from the initial announcement to sell some tickets.

Re Marc's comment. So that does make it seem someone else was lining something up, maybe Hasbro backing a UK Botcon event. Explaining why TF Nation jumped first. If Hasbro did line something up it would be 2 years before the event for a Uk one. But then Hasbro stopped with the Uk toy fair so maybe not. But this is not related to Tf Nation guys.

Lots of buzz and interest but the convention accounts haven't been active on Twitter for nearly 3 weeks. Very odd!

They posted on Tumblr on the last day of AA. Looks like they were waiting for it to finish.

ok maybe not massive then, but substantial compared to the 1 line tid bits we've had previously!
Urzu I know its fairly expensive at £54 a room but couldn't you double up with someone for a twin room?

Hah indeed! In regards to hotel costs, once they annouce dates, book them their and then, put money away each month for it. The price wont change unless it goes down and you do not pay until check out usually.

I hope they announce the dates quickly, August is always a bugger to get days off for at work unless you get in quickly.

Ideally it'll be the same weekend but im guessing that'll all be announced ASAP,
Does anyone think they are definitely going or does it depend on guests/dates/price/usual stuff?

Will be going for at least one day, I think this con will be very ambitious trying to fill the metropole on its first time, and numbers count!

Urzu I know its fairly expensive at £54 a room but couldn't you double up with someone for a twin room? Usually he and I room share cuz we're brothers, but AA this year sold so fast that we had no choice but to take separate rooms.

Oh, and when talking to them at the bar one of the main regular guests at AA did confirm to me they're already in touch with TFN. So there's stuff going on even if the public face is very quiet.
I'm going to miss all the "So, you're going to AA? Alcoholics Anonymous hey!" jokes from friends and family every single year.
Though TFN will turn out to be the same initials as clap clinic or something.

The Hilton puts me off as a venue but I might be prepared to give something new a bit of a go and stay back in the main part of city (yes it is a trek) to offset that.
What would encourage me most to go is to see a guest list and a programme well in advance so I can judge if it is an event I want to spend money and time on rather than taking a(n expensive) chance on. I appreciate that some of this might be depend on pre-registrations coming in early enough, but there should at least be a few interesting guests listed early (and in an easy to find way) and the outline of a programme at least.
Will see what happens.

There are some hotels in the local area. Though they may require a short taxi journey after the NEC shuts up, but so does getting to the train station to get back in to the city centre.

If special room rates are released shortly are they wanting us to book now?
It would suggest to me some of the major setup of the convention is going to be announced sooner rather than later

Rooms would be pay when you check in or out - but paying for the convention ticket now. But remember you get hilton points & also use topcashback to get more money back.

We've now had an announcement of the main people behind the new con, unsurprisingly with some familiar faces in there, though there's at least a couple of new (to me, though obviously photo guy has been taking pics at the last two events) people in there to hopefully bring in some new ideas as well: tfnation.com/the-crew.htmlI think the two most important hold overs are Billy (as he seems to have handled the Hilton side of things so that's a well established working relationship) and Tori (as the guest liaison for the same reason).

I'm very pleased billy is part of it, the amount of work he seems to put in is insane.malso after attending quite a few various conventions I can honestly say David is class at keeping conversations flowing, his questions are good and actually half time he asks what I wanna ask.
On a side not in the Simon furman Idw panel this year, you could tell he wanted to ask loads of fan based questions for himself not just the generic stuff people always ask!
Should be another good year hopefully!

first guest announcement; tf-nation.tumblr.com/Paul Eiding, the voice of Perceptor in the original cartoon, that's a cool guest that wasn't there last year!
