Potentially a link up with Ehobby would be a good thing at least for Americans, if FP have anything to do with shipping any service will be all but useless to us. A tweet from the TCC: Yeah, sounds about right for the "international" Transformers Collector's Club.

Botcon 2013 Toys I am though much more interested in the Machine Wars theme than I ever was last year's. Don't know how I'll aquire them, though. 5 set Machine Wars toys set [sort of hint the line will be new characters to fit in with the line] So are there any figures that stand out they might use or characters expect them to use. Optimus Prime? I not sure if they would be but might do Magnus?

Not doing Megaplex would be a hugely missed opportunity.

As I understand it, the exclusives will be both repaints of newer toys as actual MW characters, and of others that would expand the line. So the question is, would those 'others' be direct homages to different lines, or could we expect left field applications of molds and names in the vain of the original MW line? Prowl as a race car, Hubcap as a tow-truck... would we get, say, Inferno as a helicopter or Triggerhappy as a motorbike?
Since Optimus and Soundwave were both in the last set I wouldn't hold your breath for them this year.

The artwork on the botcon page has Soundwave, Megatron and Starscream looking over the bodies of ultra Magnus (repaint of RTS Prime) and regular G1 Galvatron. And Apparently G2 Sizzle head behind them, so based on that image and the background of the WOH stories (Sunbow Cartoon and Movie plus botcon 2009 and 2011 comics) a quick copy and paste from TFW.
I have to admit while Im not excited by Machine Wars the way I was with G2 or Animated I'm much more so than this years set. I think its because I have always liked the idea of Megaplex (also the toy). Leaders that are in charge because of a quality other than being the strongest also interests me so I also liked Megatron not being the biggest or strongest, he has a decoy to confuse the enemy and uses his biggest internal threat as his muscle.
I'm sure FP will ruin it by making Megatron and or Megaplex the big toy repaint and Starscream something tiny.

One of those in yellow as MW Hubcap?
What would be MW Mirage?

Ooh. That's quite good. We may expect a yellow variant as Hubcap, or possibly Classics Mirage as Prowl or... Mirage. Plenty of options for the jets if they choose to do them. I'm actually looking forward to seeing what Funpub come up with.

I quite like that, but am only interested because I have always liked the original MW Hoist, if they had shown Hubcap I wouldn't be that bothered by it. ~I do like how they did the chest paint apps though, thats clever.
I still think the set will hinge on how they handle the new (to Machine Wars) characters that they said would be included.
If they go the Mirage and Prowl route surely they can only use Classic Mirage and that would already be 4 toys down. 6 more and a troop builder after that.

Heh! Right I just realised the logic of what they did and also what they might do.
Hoist is one of the last autobot cars with a classic version. Machine Wars is G1 so FP are filling out the last gaps in the line up. Given Hasbros down sizing even if they do Hoist now it will be considered too small by many.
And rather than Hubcap I wonder if they may do Trailbreaker, possibly in green so that people can swap them around for G1 versions. Or Trailebreaker, Hoist and hubcap as the troop builders?

So they are doing the Machine wars character but repainting new toys - so are they sticking with just 5?
Viewable online is Hoist - repainted Kup.
So same should be repainted as Hubcap. But expect this to be a extra toy.
Set should be Hoist, Optimus, Megatron, Soundwave, Megaplex. ?
Toy repaints - Optimus Prime - TFP ultra magnus Megatron / Megaplex - maybe Skyquake Soundwave - would they repaint Cybertron toys?

Theres nothing I dislike about either, but I'm not interested in them at all so far. Shame FOC Starscream isn't available yet, I think that could have been good.
I keep reading people who think the lack of fiction gives FP the chance to go wild or whatever, but all I can think is it means theres no existing hook to draw people in and the lack of existing fiction also means that FP have no basis to create new MW versions of characters except for whatever back story they come up with.
I like FPs toys, it's the only thing they do well, but the only times they have had to design characters from scratch has been SG which was pretty mixed and Animated where they went straight to Mr Animated to design them.
So god only knows what they will end up producing for the rest of the set.
The up side is that if they reuse the mould for Thundercracker, Botcon will have produced all three G1 versions of Thundercracker, four if you count Scourge. I like this fact for some reason, even if they buggered up AMTC with purple wings and SG symbols.

Hmm. I like the proper Machine Wars Skywarp, and even quite like his colour scheme. Honestly I think that the mold they've chosen for the Botcon one doesn't suit those colours. I think the combination of that colour scheme and that mold manages to look hideous. I like the mold in other colour schemes, and I liked that colour scheme on a different mold, I just don't think they go well together.

They are not doing a lot for me so far. I shudder at the idea that the only official MW fiction ever is going to come from FP.

I didn't expect Skywarp to be in the set - expect he might replace jet Megatron. I can't see them doing a MW set and NOT doing jet Megatron/Megaplex. That's pretty much the only reason you'd want the set!

Here's the TFU MW Toys list www.tfu.info/series/mw.htmHmmmmm. Since they've gone Movie style for Skywarp (and presumably Thundercracker) I wonder if Movie Thrust might make a good Megatron/Megaplex especially considering that weapon on his right arm. Thrust wasn't in the movie like Dirge so I guess the mold's OK for Hasbro to use for a convention exclusive.

It's hard to imagine they wont do Megatron and Megaplex, aside from Megatron being a fairly sure fire hit, the Megaplex clone thing is about the only fiction that Machine has brought to Transformers. Though this has led every one to assume Megatron clones will be the troop builders which I'm not so sure about, or at least I am hoping is not the case. Thrust does make sense as Megatron because of the choice for Skywarp and presumably Thundercracker. But a Botcon set that contains two repaints of ROTF Dirge and 4 repaints of ROTF Thrust 3 of which will mostly be grey would make the least inspiring set FP have ever produced. If they can use it Prime Dreadwing or else ROTF Mindwipe would make far more interesting Mega's. One in the boxset one an add on. That would leave room for one more deluxe and hopefully one voyager in the box set. As the megas would need a new head, the other two would likely be straight repaints. And for some reason I have a feeling HTFD Brawn could get used as its head is very Machine Wars like. MW Brawn or Outback would be a bit redundant and the only other use that comes to mind is Rollbar in non green colour. So far I'm guessing the set will look like Boxset Hoist Skywarp Megaplex (Because Megatron is always the add on- 2006,2008,2010-SG Galvatron) ? new MW deluxe ? new MW voyager - Autobot leader for the set Attendee Electro Add on 1 Megatron ? new MW Add on 2 - Often not related to the main set but if MW ? Thundercracker ? Troop Builder - If it's not Megatron I have no idea but I hope it isnt.

Andy: The Kup'll be back again in yellow as MW Hubcap probably
|
|
|
Post by Bogatan on Feb 9, 2013 10:58:51 GMT
Pete Sinclair made a comment on Twitter (I think) saying Electro AND Hubcap wont be appearing. He's also said not all 12 original characters will be included. Hubcap as a yellow tow truck never really convinced me and given how perfect Kup is (especially with that head) I'm hoping it's Electro.
Then again they might do Hubcap here and leave Electro for next years membership figure.
So it might be wishful thinking.
As for Soundwave if theres ever a time to ignore their stupid little rule (other than Actionmaster Thundercracker) it has to be MW Soundwave from DC Red Alert, but it depends if they decided to include Soundwave. For one thing it'll be the third Soundwave they have been involved with in two years.

They'd want Megatron to be bigger while Megaplex can be DX size.

no they have to be the same size. That is rather the point Pete! Same toy mold, same size!
