There's also weird stuff goong on with the ports on the deluxes. They're not as straightforward as in CW. Jazz with the PM plugged into his chest: Closer look at Jazz's chest: news.tfw2005.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/10/2017/07/SDCC-2017-Hasbro-TF-016.jpgIn order to become a leg (or an effective arm), his whole front end needs to fold over his back to expose the joint, like Dead End or Breakdown do. But you can see in the top photo that a bit of the front end sides goes out around the windshield. This would prevent it from folding backwards onto his back. The vehicle also shows these panel lines: I'll say aside from this, the port does seem relatively straight forward CW. And he DOES have an otherwise pointless 5mm plug in the bottom of his foot/rear of the car. Then there's Blackwing and Dreadwind. Their ports are not nearly so straightword, and appear to be heavily modified in a way we've never seen before: These are obvious mods for the PM gimmick. How they effect the engineering as far as being CW ports is unknown, because like Jazz, on the surface it looks like it hinders the joint as needed to be a combiner. What I'm getting at is all these guys are really weird, and the case for them being CW combiners is not nearly so straight forward.

Its possible Hasbro aren't planning on selling them as combiner limbs and wont provide hand foot guns for them but for the combiner port to be any use at all it surely has to swing out at least 90 degrees and since the engineering of the legs hasnt changed the jets will work as arms at least.
likewise Starscream looks like it can serve as a torso whether its sold as such.
I said during CW that I hoped hasbro would build new toys around the existing combiner engineering (even if its wasnt the primary feature or even included in instructions) it looks like thats what they are doing so Im pretty happy.

I think I'm combinered out myself. Out of the three I've got, only Computron really does anything for me as a gestalt. Titans has been much better for me.
I'd prefer them to not rehash either of these gimmicks as the grand finale, if I'm honest.
But I will have Dreadwing and Darkwind, at least.

There's also weird stuff goong on with the ports on the deluxes. They're not as straightforward as in CW. Hmm if the Titanmaster plugs into the chest then that would make the port super fragile. But they wouldn't keep the port but make it unusable... or is this '91 all over again?? I hope plugging in the Titanmaster actually does something on the deluxes and voyagers!

A close up look at Jazz and Starscream from the presentation The theory is the Deluxe Primemaster mount is a hand, and the Voyager Primemaster mounts are feet, you can see a grey Victorion/Computron style pivot in the top of Starscream's, which the two spare hands can plug into as heel spurs using the hole Starscream's guns use. The new blocks on the jets combiner connectors don't look to be covering the crucial bit that does the slotting in and turning.

They also said (and showed) that the primemasters plug into the chests of the deluxes. It's completely plausible that they recycled the CW combiner plug engineering and adapted it to this purpose. Oh. Oh now this is a very interesting point, and not one I'd considered. It would be... odd... to have that (relatively) large (for a deluxe) bit of engineering just to whack a Prime Master on. But... As you say, not inconceivable. Or it's possible - as someone else said, I've got a memory of a goldfish, I have no idea who, where am I? - says, that being CW limbs is an "undocumented feature", which would explain the 5mm ports (Hi, Ralph!) on their feet. And it's not like the Generations line doesn't have a history of undocumented features or anything... Curiouser and curiouser...

Man I really don't understand this 'block with a bobble' gimmick. Heads are much better! Or even an engine! Hopefully the actual figures will make more sense in-hand!
Do like the power armour stuff for titanmasters and leaders. It's a shame everything else isn't following suit. It feels more like none of the other size classes 'want to play'

The Primemasters plug into the extra THING which attaches to the chest we've seen. The THINGs, theorised to be Combiner Hands & Feet (see above) weren't at SDCC. presumably because it's that obvious that they are hands and feet.

Looking at Jazz Im pretty sure the combiner port has nothing to do with attaching the armour piece.
It looks like it plugs in to the chest piece below the headlights as there some major paint wear on the bottom.
If thats the case theres no reason to have the combiner port at all if its not for use as a combiner.

I guess we'll be getting Slapdash so that they can finally reuse Dragstrip. THIS RIGHT HERE! This is why I'm tired of combiners! They've shown us seven PotP molds. And two of them are retools of molds we got nearly a dozen times EACH in the course of under two years. Both of which the originals are retools of each other. Yeah, these two look amazing, but it does not change this fact.

I think that's exactly what it is. Like the way Powermasters used to unlock the transformation (that's right isn't it? I don't think I owned any). The interview also indicated that they were trying to keep that reveal until Hascon, which adds to this idea they suddenly tried to hide Starscream's arms in the SDCC display. Man, they should realise by now that fans will work this kind of thing out.
I think that means at Hascon we'll see the rest of wave one and Starscream combined.

I am liking the look of that Starscream, I must admit. For a while there it felt like I was the only person who actually liked it. There is a different aesthetic going on there, and it is nice to get a new interpretation of an old character. I quite like the idea of the Rodimus Prime too, a different way to approach it and I think it is quite effective.

I don't know whether to be whooping for joy to see all these figures I've so wanted finally arriving (Predacons, Dinobots, Starscream) or disappointed that I've just blown every surprise coming in the next twelve months.
There's a gap in the waves there too - first wave Dec, second April. No Feb one.
So not Unicron for next year's Titan - a Five VOYAGER Predaking!? I'd FAR rather have that. Amazing stuff. Even if eventually it's simple figures like Devastator turned out to be.

Im not bothered about anything being spoiled, unless Im able to walk in to a shop and see something I knew nothing about it doesnt matter, but the wait for some of those later waves Its essentially what everyone expected. Aside rom Predacons being all voyagers so no chance of them being remoulds of the other beast combiners. Honestly it seems a bit odd if Unicron isnt next years titan seemed like the toys and up coming comics are geared up to it. Unless its planned to tie in to TF6, but thats a long way off. Inferno probably kills any remaining chance of a G2 Defensor which is pretty frustrating.
