Add another idea to the unconventional list:
Post Cybertron UT Megatron uses stolen autobot Powerlinx tech to merge his Armada and Energon bodies together, to come back to life.
No changes needed for the tank, jet could use some superficial retooling to make it more similar to E. Megs.
New nosecone, new shoulder cannons, new helmet. Chest vibes a bit as Cybertron megs so that works.
Heck, even the helmet kinda vibes armada.

I had a shot of the mould as Phil's Black Shadow and thought it felt very cheap and light in hand. -Ralph feels about the same as the other leaders to me. Don't forget 50% of Overlord, the plane/body & arms, is new! |

I dreamt last night that OverShadow got a massive retool into Scorponok.
The tank/legs stayed the same, but were cast in purple.
The upper part was an entirely new mold, and transformed into a scorpion. The wings were replaced by scorpion legs, the arms replaced by the traditional scorponok arms, and the tail was on a new double hinge allowing it to stow on the back, and swing over the waist in scorpion mode.

It doesn't really project the same impression as the original version does it? Which is a shame, the self-satisfied expression is one of the appealing things about Overlord - heandshe looks like they are quite happy in the knowledge that he is doing the right thing for the right reasons, which is a nice contrast to the usual "I am here to menace and frighten you" look that most Decepticon/Destron leader toys tend towards. The original Overlord was less "fear me foolish worms!" and more "I'm here to do the thing that must be done". Karl |

Overlord's colours threw me for a moment, but they're the ones he sports in the Masterforce cartoon. They've been used before on his Kabaya toy and his SCF/Heroes of Cybertron.
The Clones just look wrong. And yet a google for original toy images shows them with a pinker chest. Not that pink though! Hasbro definitely did better there and, unless there's a pack in they've not shown, I'm regretting my sight unseen preorder last night.

I threw in a sight unseen preorder of Overlord when those went live because as standard with TR, BBTS still doesn't have a TR overlord preorder yet. I figured if there was some change (which I doubted there would be), better to get in then snd avoid the rush once revealed.
Never having seen Masterforce, i couldn't care less about anime accuracy. I know overlord exclusively from the toy, and Hasbro's is pretty dead on. I think I'll hold the Legends preorder until i secure the better hasbro one.
All that said, I think there's something more. I think it's got additional pieces added into his chest to represent the powermasters.

All that said, I still think Hasbro dropped a huge ball on Overlord. Two titanmasters to represent Giga and Mega, and put a toy face on one, and an IDW face on the other.
Again, the entire gimmick of TR is headswapping, yet Hasbro again does only the absolute underachievement bare minimum.
Go big or go home! Not once did they go big, so lets move on to PotP now so they can go home.

I just picked up that not only did they make faux TM shaped Powermaster pieces in his chest, they also completely replaced his chest flaps. I thought they looked off because they had no paint details like Hasbro's do, but they're completely different sculpts. |
