Considering if I need both western and Japanese versions of the Titans Return toys...

A case of keeping the Takara line plus the Hasbro Titanmaster packs and exclusives?

It's the Takara stuff I'm thinking of getting shot of.....

Really? I thought the Takara paint jobs were better. Then you've got stuff like Balletmaster Prime.

?? The Powermaster Prime/Gomaster Ginrai? I'd keep that, well the box set, and the Lio Convoy & G2 Megatron. Quite a few of the Legends Legends have unique heads with them. But the Deluxe, Voyager and Leaders? Yes some of them have Titanmaster vehicle/weapon recolours but I'm thinking how often have I looked at them recently. The main toys have been sitting in boxes in the loft since pre covid and I'm waying up the space they occupy.

The Targetmasters have the partner figures that didn't get Western releases. Although I suppose now many of those have been superseded by Battlemasters.

Quite a list!
I guess it’s a matter of aesthetic preference, but to me some of those are miles above their TR counterparts - Blurr stands out in particular, as does Windblade. I prefer LG Hot Rod but can see why some prefer the TR version, ditto Kup.
They do take up disproportionate space in my collection as well though as I can’t bring myself to discard the packaging for them…

Scourge, also, is a lot better than his Titans Return version (for me, anyway). And not forgetting that the LG versions of the original Headmasters had their toy-accurate heads, instead of TR's more comic accurate heads (although of course these versions were then re-released by Hasbro in G1 packaging, which I am sure Big Phil also has). I'm certainly more of a fan of the LG versions of the '86 Autobot cars than I am the TR versions.

Yes, the LG 86 bots *do* look better. But I now have better looking versions of all the 86 bots in SS86. Realising that was a bit of a game changer.
Yes I do have the 88 boxed western releases of the main Headmasters

I forgot Scourge!
Some of the Titan Masters are also more nicely done up, thinking especially of Doublecross’s Battle Beasts homage.
It does occur to me that there are some where I’d keep the TR versions in preference - I much prefer the faces on the main four Autobot Headmasters for example.

I think I prefer the LG versions to all three SS86 cars. Blurr especially. But maybe that’s judging them more on the toys in themselves rather than as representations of the characters. (Even then I think I still prefer LG Blurr though)

Talking about moving on Legends TR toys while I'm away, eh?!
I could certainly find a home for some of your list if you do decide to move them on, Phil.

I've had to pull the Transformers box out of the cupboard this afternoon. Needed to go in after some of the "assorted other mecha" collection that I think is going to have to go.
Whilst I was there I was reflecting on something said on a Zoom Call last night, where it was observed that one of the reasons for getting Studio Series Swoop was that it completed a set. I'd said at the time that I didn't feel quite the same tug to completing sets. But that set me thinking about the other three Studio Series Dinobots I've got... If I'm not getting Swoop - which I'm probably not now that it is out of stock in Smyths there is less of a sense of "they'll look nice all together on a shelf... SO I've pulled out Slug, Sludge and Snarl to have a look at and determine which - if any, I actually keep. I'm leaning towards "nope", and just slimming my Dinobots down to MP Grimlock and Slash.
While I was in there I realised that the only reason I was keeping the Movie Thundercracker (the Nitro Zeus redec) is that I am using it as the current body for the custom Beast Wars Megatron Titanmaster I have. I'm really not sure that this is a good reason for it to be taking up space. I might have to see if I can find the original head, reunite it with the body and add T-cracker to the to-go pile.
Said pile has already overtaken the small box I started - that overflowed as soon as I decided that the Haslab Star Saber was not staying, so I figure I'd just going to pile them on top of that for the moment, maybe get a black sack to put them in later.
(* - it isn't just a Transformers clearout going on either - Godzilla toys, NERF weaponry, Matchbox Robotech stuff. All sorts of things are being weighed in the balance at the moment. I have far, far too much _stuff_ for the amount of storage space I have hear, and thus the stuff must contract. Also, when I move again - whether that is in a few years, or a couple of decades, I'm not hauling all this stuff with me!).

Dizzying shift of perspective this afternoon, with the realisation that now that I am no longer A Collector the question is no longer so much "what should I get rid of for space reasons", but "what do I love enough to keep". Suddenly the presumption is divest, unless the thing brings me joy...
The World Turned Upside Down and all that...

Karl Not to go too off topic, but Karl, if you're looking for a Swoop then City Centre Comics in Glasgow still had a couple the last time I was in. I'm in there every so often and could pick one up if you were needing it. Cheers, Jonathan
