Rebellion half price sale on their Treasury of British Comics line. Time to get Charley's War!

Thoughly enjoyed the new Tammy/Jinty Special. Far more successful at reviving these types of comics than the Misty/Scream Specials have managed thus far. Good fun and some lovely art: Dani in particular.

New Vigilant special arrived today. Feels thicker than the last one but that might be the paper.

Read the Vigilant. I love the premise behind this but it's just too confusing to read. Too many obscure characters; they'd be better off doing individual stories for each character to update them in an anthology style. By the end this was just words on the page, no idea what was going on.

I had that feeling with the first one. Not read the 2nd one yet. So far, only the Tammy/Jinty Special has been 100% successful at reviving old characters in a format that makes sense. Cor/Buster had its moments. Both are worth doing again. I've found the two Scream Specials to be a tad impenetrable (though the second one showed a big improvement).

I think I'd agree with that completely. Having read the specials output by Rebellion this year, the Tammy/Jinty one was certainly the most enjoyable. I didn't get much from the Cor/Buster one.

Jings. They have certainly pressed the 'Specials' button! No mention of The Vigilant, though.

Goink! Twelve?!
That's bonkers. This year I took a sub out so I didn't have to worry about trying to find the specials, it seemed cheap enough and I think it was post free. But twelve would be quite an investment to make, especially if only one is directly 2000AD related. May have to be more choosy.

The Vigilant collection says it features 'the trilogy' and is 128 pages so I presume a 3rd issue is due before then to tie up the story.

Wouldn't that be in the mega list of specials if there was? 128 pages doesn't leave much space for part three given the previous two specials were 48 and 64. Sounds a bit odd. Has there been another short published anywhere?

Think I'll sub for the 2020 Specials. I did so for the 2019 ones, which was handy, but there are so many this year I'll never be able to keep track of when they're out in newsagents!
The Furmanator has a story in the Smash special.

I'd like to, to experience the variety on offer, but I don't think I will. I think several of those I'd be reading for the sake of it and I do enough of that as it is. I'm also in that four month run where I put away £40 a month to pay for the annual combi sub.

Either the newsstand issues didn't sell enough and/or there wasn't room for it in the deluge of 2020 Specials. Still at least it gets a conclusion. One wonders if there any readers who bought the Specials who don't read the Megazine.

Doubt it. But it explains the odd page count for the trade.

A team of old UK comic characters rebooted as a team book. Two Specials were published in 2018 and 2019 as part of Rebellion's current approach of throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks after they acquired the rights to many out of print comics.

The Action 2020 Special (with shop exclusive reprint of an old Action issue) arrived today. Sadly, it was sent in the usual 2000ad flimsy envelope so slightly bashed but hey ho. Looking forward to reading it. -Ralph

Action 2020 was mostly pretty decent, I thought.
Cor/Buster Easter Special was the same as last year's humour special: great art but it just doesn't make me laugh, alas.

Did anyone else order the SMASH special? Looks ace but am surprised by the size - it's US format like The Vigilent rather than bigger like Action was. Quite surprised.

The SMASH! Special has arrived. Utterly puzzled as to why it is printed at US comic size. Um.

The SMASH! Special has arrived. Utterly puzzled as to why it is printed at US comic size. Um. -Ralph I posted the same over in the 2000AD thread, sorry it belongs here doesn't it. The Vigilant was the same of course, but with the Action special being prog-size the rules seem to be out the window. There's also what was said on a recent Thrillcast: that this issue will not make it to newsagents due to COVID-19, so maybe they are cutting their losses?

Most newsagents wouldn't have got in the recent Action or Cor/Buster Specials either. I also imagine the page dimensions were worked out quite some ago: artists need to know.
It also has a barcode and price on it.
I am *guessing* the dimensions of the mag don't have anything to with how it is available for sale. It's the same rrp as the Action Special.
I'm not fussed what size the Specials are though it does vex me slightly that they can't pick a size and stick to it.

Roy of the Rovers Summer Special arrived (albeit mangled to buggery). Ho hum. The editorial mentions coronavirus so Rebellion are still working on these Specials to some extent rather than being done a while ago. I guess they did have enough pre-orders from the shop to make them viable.
