Not bad, The Movie. There were some really good bits... and some weaker bits. The Doctor and Grace were goid together. McGann was good, would have been nice to see him take on the role full-time. What was all the snogging about?! The Doctor doesn't snog his assistants! (not on screen anyway...). The half-human bit was crap. Who thought that was a good idea?!

Day of the Daleks(Pertwee's only Dalek story - a Shockprowl double-whammy, but maybe watch the 'special edition' version) You liar! Planet and Death To are both pertwee and great! Planet of the Spiders (Actually not a great story, but Pertwee's last) It's Andu's favourite DW story period. Actually should the Animated Power be on the list?

I'm like that with Curse of Peladon. That's one of my least favourite stories in the entire classic series. Terrible. It's not even the worst story set on Peladon!

PHASE TWO IS COMPLETE.
AND IT HAS BEEN GLORIOUS.
The number one spot has fallen again and again! So much has happened! I need to watch many -if not all- of them again. And re-do my Tops list.
There really is nothing like Doctor Who. It's unique, and watching some of these stories has helped me understand just how special it is. I'd enjoyed a touch of the 4th and 5th as a young person, liked the Daleks, but in isolation you don't quite see the full intrinsic brilliance of what the show is. And new doors, new Doctors, have been opened up to me. Only now do I see the light, thanks to the wisdom of my Cyber-pals, and the generosity if Pinwig and Blueshift.
Right then. Phase Three. Some great looking lists so far!

You liar! Planet and Death To are both pertwee and great! Quite right. Sorry. Not sure how I got that wrong. However Planet is in a boxed set, which I was trying to avoid, and Death is, well, crap. What was I thinking of. No idea. Boxed set recommendations for round four I think.

Run out of Hoop.
Not good...
PHASE THREE BEGINS!!!!!
So, how we gonna do this, fellas? I'm liking Pinwing's logic in his list, avoiding box sets etc. Regenerations, Classics, and Daleks. Ten (or so).

Looking back at what Blue and Phil (BluePhil?) suggested, there are a lot of similarities. Blue also suggested The Rescue/The Romans set, The Mind Robber and Revelation of the Daleks.
Phil added Destiny of the Daleks, Terror of the Zygons and then some stories trapped in boxed sets - Invasion of the Dinosaurs (comes with The Android Invasion), Planet of the Daleks (with Frontier in Space) and Revenge of the Cybermen (comes with Silver Nemesis).
Which provides plenty of food for thought. Infact ebay-wise I bet you can get the boxsets split into singles anyway, but it might leave you finding the other one harder to find.
To be honest, any of those would be rollicking good fun. I'd make a list (we all like a list) of the lot of them, set up some ebay searches, and see what you can purloin cheap.

Worth noting that CEX often have stories that are in boxed sets on sale individually, so they may represent another possible avenue for acquiring those.
I would definitely second The Rescue/The Romans though - fantastic stuff, has the starting point of one of my all-time favourite TARDIS line-ups, and the only Who story which is intentionally an all-out british-style farce.
Survival is definitely worth a viewing at some point in your journey - if only because of how much it now feels like it prefigures the returned series in many ways.

The Romans is brilliant. I'd have suggested that were it not for its boxed set status.
Boxed-wise I'd say Unearthly/Daleks/Edge and the Tom regen set are important ones.

Man I've got some lists to make! Which are the regeneration stories? Would you not rather be surprised? Also most of the stuff in box sets can now be bought separately for about a fiver a pop off ebay I assume Shockers, your goal is to not watch all of Who, but the good stuff and big hitters?

Ah Shockers, if only you had a VHS player, that is where a truckload of VHS tapes could end up. I am still resisting just taking them down the tip

Charity shops round me don't do VHS either.

We actually had a video player only up 'till a few years ago! We had a ton of children's videos, Bob the Builder and the like. But it packed in... and I had to... let it go....

I've got two in the loft. I'm hoping at least one of them still works because I still have boxes of VHS tapes with stuff on that I've never seen released in a digital format.
I have to have SOME way to watch Invasion Earth again.

I listed phase one and two in Doctor order on the last page and gave my suggestion for phase three based on Shockprowl's requests.
I don't think you have to watch Dragonfire and Nemesis to appreciate Fenric. Not least because they're both in boxed sets aren't they?
