More.... MORE!!!!! Next, The Ark in Space. The 4th Doctor! I suppose he's my Doctor. I watched some of him, and a lot of 5 (& all of 9 and most of 10...). Seem to remember some of 6 now I think about it... But, 4th has always been my favorite in my memory. Off we go! I am honestly so happy that the pile of DVDs has brought Shockprowl such joy!

It's a genuine thrill to see someone discovering the joy of these stories. Blueshift played a blinder here.

Nothing to show so far it's only his second story, he's just how I remember him.
This title sequence is the best one. With the tunnels 'n'that.

Wow. Noah, and the other chap who looked like Noah, brave noble bastards. Impressive stuff. So, Doc' 'n' co used the trans-matt jobby to travel down to the Earth at the end? Why didn't they just use the Tardis? I imagine it lead-onto another story? Do we see The Ark again?
Makes one wonder... Within Doctor Who, what is the time-line of the Earth...?
Tom Baker's bloody good.

Ark In Space leads into Sontaran Experiment.
Returning by transmat at the end they're hijacked by the Time Lords and sent to Skaro's past in Genesis of the Daleks.
They use a Time Lord device to get home which returns them to the Ark in it's past for the Revenge Of The Cybermen and an opportunity to reuse the sets!
At the end of that they get a call from the Birgadier summoning them back to Earth for Terror of the Zygoms

Varos is next in Ralph order, no idea what Shockers will think of that!!
The extras are usually really good on the dvds, it's worth checking them out too (though some of the early ones didn't have many extras, I know 5Docs and Remembrance were pretty poor on that front!)

Yep, Vengence on Varos is next! 6th Doctor eh? Another jump, BUT I TRUST IN THE DOC' LIST. I've a feelng I saw some of the 6th way back when. But certainly not seen this story. I think it was a bit of the Trial one you guys bang on about all the time. I should maybe check that out sometime....
Loving it so far! I'm struck by the depth of the plots. Just seems far less 'soap' than modern Doctor Who.
Varos, tonight!

The way the stories blend into each other at that point was a conscious effort to make the series feel like an overall ongoing story - it's really noticeable in Pertwee's last season and the way it continues with Baker's first. So devices other than the TARDIS were used to connect the stories together to make them flow, like the transmat taking them from Nerva Beacon down to the planet for The Sontaran Experiment.

Now, I saw Genesis of the Daleks more recently, when I say 'recently' I mean aprox 10 years ago... I think I rented it... So yeah, ok, that fits in well.

Ok. So. Mining colony that prizes torture TV. Those that run the place use it to keep the workers in check. Who's the slug-guy?
Don't mind the 6th Doctor so far!

With the advent of reality TV and the internet, Varos is oddly more prescient today than when it was first broadcast. The slug guy is Sil, he hadn't appeared before but the actor did an amazing job.

Yes he's a great character! Just what you want in a baddie.
Yeah, good epidode. As you say Blue', more relevant today than when it was made.
I liked the 6th Doctor! Odd mix of some of the other Doctors that I've seen. But as Pinwig said in the Doctor Who thread, it's hard to take him seriously in that coat.
NEXT!

I like the American chap, even though he seems to have gone to the Richard Nixon school of acting. What's with his sideburns though?

Liz has left by this point. She vanishes between series. -Ralph Vanishes?!?! Yup, the actress leaves because the new producer didn't like the character (but liked the actress and used her again) She'd have quit anyway as she was pregnant! There is a school of thought that says Inferno should be the third story of season 7, not the 4th, as there's a convincing reason for Liz leaving at the end of Ambassadors OF DEATH!
