Ah, Quake and Wildfly, those two characters who deserved cover spots more than all the ones who didn't get one, from Unicron himself on down.
Mutter mutter mutter.

They do at least have roles in those volumes, Quake I seem to recall somewhat substantially, so they're trying harder I guess? Not having Unicron on that volume is very odd though.

Maybe they didn't want to have Unicron on the cover twice, as he's in the lower image?

Probably because there's no full robot image of Unicron in the MTMtE profile book.

No joy yesterday. Picked it up first thing this morning. Contents exactly as expected (finishing with Lost Light). No extras except cover gallery.

out of curiosity, has anyone here been reading IDW's stuff for the first time via these hardbacks? Wondering what the experience of the absolutely nonsensical reading order they're using is like...

Yeah, that's me. I was doing OK until around half way through when it all got too much with so many separate story threads. At that point I stopped went back to the beginning of IDW and read in chronological as and when the gaps were filled. Second reading of things like Combiner Wars made so much more sense in context.

Ah cool. Did Furman have his usual intro? He did. Also quite surprised that the Unicron issues are complete, with the 4 page ending for each of the other Hasbro universe properties. I was half expecting those to be cut out since those books aren't part of the collection.

Other than putting the Autocracy books so early on, I don't think the IDW order ended up being too bad in most places, though I did notice that one book.. Devastation? had captions referring to stuff that had happened in Spotlights that were collected in the next volume. If you haven't got that far in yet, leave the Autocracy trilogy until after the end of the Costa ongoing as it ties in more there.

Devastation? had captions referring to stuff that had happened in Spotlights that were collected in the next volume. If you haven't got that far in yet, leave the Autocracy trilogy until after the end of the Costa ongoing as it ties in more there. oh, I've read all the stuff before, that's pretty much why I'm asking - hard for me to imagine how it must all look to a new reader! If there's one thing I'd say this ordering gets right, it's that it puts Infiltration first. But then it immediately veers off to chronological order, which is perhaps intelligible but kills a lot of story logic. Megatron: Origin was a Dreamwave-originated prequel released a year into the run completely disconnected from Furman's stuff, Spotlight: Blurr was an All Hail Megatron tie-in, Orion Pax was released over five years later as part of a series that was decidedly a Dark Cybertron prequel... that's just the first two volumes, like you say, don't get me started on the -acy trilogy, which was basically written as a Sunbow prequel! In total, this means there's twenty-nine issues between Infiltration and Escalation, which is bonkers I'm told a lot of these problems started out with Andy Schmidt, who presumably put together the old IDW Collection hardbacks, and rather than taking any stab at correcting them here Furman's just moved Infiltration (and assorted other stuff to fit the volumes better) and called it a day? Recently I've been trying to work out something a little more straightforward, so once I'm done with that I might try and reverse-engineer what exactly the logic was for Definitive (I say "logic", because you can clearly see with the Marvel stuff what the thinking was: biggest example probably being Furman still putting Time Wars after Underbase, but there's also stuff like him wanting to a) have Headmasters lead directly into #138 b) keep the UK strips in publication order c) put "Worlds Apart!" after the Headmasters mini - three restrictions which combine to throw an entire portion of the UK material out of sync with the US stuff)

Nice list! Yeah, that's basically is how I'm planning to read through them, Megatron Origin just before AHM and Autocracy before MTMTE/RID and swap volumes 37 and 38 around.
It's a shame they didn't decide to/have the rights to publish the Hasbro universe crossovers earlier in planning to have them in the right places instead of after the extension, and Requiem for the Wreckers kinda made sense to be where it is if volume 80 was the end but is now way too early.

Maybe in 5 years they will release them all again, in a better order, with errors fixed, missing issues added, and the Dreamwave stuff corrected. Ah, who the fuck am I kidding

Why you're choosing to sell a thing is irrelevant to the description (in this example, is anyone after a series that was bought for a son that longer wants them? No.), so I'm always weary of someone who puts that sort of stuff in there as it usually means either over-priced or a scam.
Either way they want to make it seem they're sadly giving up something of personal value. "I bought this for my son..."
If it's was for the son, why isn't the son selling it? I don't think anyone committed to 94 volumes of this series before saying they don't want it is going to be too young for their own Ebay.
If the kid was so uninterested most of the volumes are still in shrink wrap, why keep subscribing for them for so long?
Why stop so close to the end after all that?
I have no fondness for Hachette (I've worked out today my 95 and 96 should have arrived by now. So that's chasing up in the week I don't need), but this auction is set by a lying bellend.

Seems a little harsh. From the description it doesnt actually sound like the kid got the books, but were being bought for him. Its not insane that the kid was in to Transformers but too young for the books, the Dad thought he'd eventually be in to comics and like the collection. Turns out he doesnt. Not a terrible idea but a gamble that failed.
Or straying from the description a bit, the kid got issue 1 from the newsagents and liked it so his Dad got a sub for him. The kid then loses interest and the books end up in a pile in his room. Especially if the kid doesnt live with him it would be easy not to realise.
Maybe its BS but some people feel the need to explain their choice to sell things. Maybe they dont want people thinking they are short of cash. Or dont want to look like they were treating them as an investment that definitly hasn't worked out. Or maybe he just doesnt want to be seen as a toy/comic geek.
As always Im shocked that people think the sentences like "I bought it for my kid, but they didn't like it" is somehow a selling point. Car boot sellers love lines like that. Okay its new(ish) but not coming highly recommended, I will now offer you less than I planned to.
