I decided on London in the end. Couldn't make a trip overseas fit in the half term.
Tickets also booked for the Wildhearts acoustic show in Southampton in December.

hehe! I went to see queen with adam lambert last night, god that boy can sing, was fantastic! That was indeed a show. Blimey. I mean you can't replace Freddie Mercury, but some how they've come close. More of a shock, Roger Taylor can sing, damn! From the distance we were sat Brian May could have stepped straight out of 1976.

haha, 3 major things I took from it
1) Agreed Roger's voice is amazing 2) Adam Lambert is a quality front man who commands the stage, he's definitely the next best thing to having mercury himself! 3) During bohemian rhapsody possibly the cheesiest entrance/outfit combo ever from Brian may but it definitely worked!

Just watched A Knights Tale, I had forgotten all about Queen and Robbie Williams. No Adam Lambert (or George Micheal), but pretty good. Better than Five at the very least. haha, 3 major things I took from it 1) Agreed Roger's voice is amazing 2) Adam Lambert is a quality front man who commands the stage, he's definitely the next best thing to having mercury himself! 3) During bohemian rhapsody possibly the cheesiest entrance/outfit combo ever from Brian may but it definitely worked! Yeah that outfit was mad.

1. Warrior Soul - Molotov Souls - Whore No More 2. Sumo Cyco - Devilskin - Eva Plays Dead 3. The Birthday Massacre - Lesbian Bed Death - Def Neon 3. Skindred - Raging Speedhorn 5. Ready Player Three 6. Yonaka - Eva Plays Dead - Damn Cargo: Unfamiliarity with the headliners means this one comes in midtable. First act was a little forgettable, but they have free stuff on their Bandcamp page, but the top two really nailed it. 7. Download Festival 8. Tony Wright 9. Devin Townsend Project - Tesseract - Leprous 10. The Infusion - Zadkiel 11. Dick Valentine - ? - Prime - Itty Bitty Committee 12. Avenged Sevenfold - Disturbed - In Flames

CKY are supporting skindred on their tour and at £25 that seems a bargain

Yeah, it's a bit of a deal, really. After Christmas I'm going to blow so much money on gig tickets...! We've got Hed(PE) playing a pub in Derby too... I mean, that's ridiculous!

Kicked off the Christmas holiday with CJ and Ginger from the Wildhearts playing an acoustic set in Southampton tonight. Pleasant enough evening but it was a short set, only an hour, and Ginger seemed a bit subdued from his usual verbose self. Can't help but feel that Wildhearts songs aren't supposed to be played like that. Good job they're doing a proper tour next year.
The revelation of the night though was the support. InMe's lead singer Dave MacPherson playing acoustically solo - he was jaw droppingly good.

Poor year for me then. Very few concerts attended. I must pay more attention to local listings and improve next year. Must buy the odd Kerrang for the listings again. Used to subscribe to that just to keep abreast of who was playing where.
1. Iron Maiden - O2 Arena, London 27/5/17 2. Linkin Park - O2 Arena, London 3/7/17 3. Let's Rock (Human League / Howard Jones) - Southampton Common, 8/7/17 4. Jeff Lynne's ELO - Wembley Stadium, 24/6/17 5. Wildhearts Acoustic - Southampton Engine Rooms, 20/12/17

On the Twitter Ginger has said that that was the worst venue they've played. The size of the place wasn't suited to the acoustic thing they're doing.
He's seemed pretty happy with the other dates, so I guess you just got the duff one?

That figures. He did say that he didn't like it. I think he was after somewhere more cosy. I'd never been to the Engine Rooms before, but it's a typical new small gig venue, not something like the pub type setting he wanted. He noted that the barrier was a long way from the stage and that he felt too distant from the crowd. Admittedly the locals were really trying hard to get him into it, but the atmosphere was more like a proper concert and not the social type thing I think he was after, so they ended up trying to do a full on Wildhearts concert with just two acoustic guitars.
Thing is, if the full band were there it would have been fine. No different to other places I've seen them before like the Portsmouth Wedgewood rooms, or The O2 Islington.
Never mind, the Brit Rock Must Die combo tour next May promises to be fun. Triple headliners - Wildhearts, Terrorvision and Reef.

Oh, goodness yes! I really need to pull my finger out and get some tickets for that!
Shame about the venue/intention difference. Apparently last nights was much the same. He wanted the intimate experience, but I guess you can't really do that everywhere touring The Wildhearts name.

Queen seems like it was my last show of the year. Ive seen a lot this year and Im really struggling to decide what tops the list. Everytime I think something was the best I think of something else at least as good.
Special mention: All For One - Performing I Swear (a song that can not feel more summery to me)at a Boston Tree lighting ceremony.
1. Queen - Ive seen live performances by them from the 80s and always been so jealous because I never got to see them. Adam Lambert and Queen gave more than taste of what it must have been like. And no one else I saw had a 2 hour show that were all hits all the time to Queens standards.
2. Springsteen on Broadway - I mean its not even a concert or gig and half of it is talking but.....
3. Flaming Lips - The Flaming Lips performing an outdoor show in an old school playground in Hull will probably be the strangest memory of 2017.
4. Biffy Clyro - Seen twice once playing in front of 25,000 at Big Weekend, once in a Boston club with probably less than 500. Both shows were brilliant.
5. Beach Boys/ Brian Wilson - Seeing 2 different approaches to the same music only a 2 or 3 months apart really showed how good the Beach Boys were.
6. ELO - not overly familiar with all the music but a great show.
7. Big Weekend - Aside from Biffy, Haim, Lana Del ray, Imagine Dragons and catching a little bit of Rag n Bone Man were highlights. Bastile and Katy Perry was good too.
8. Country 2 Country - Low because the headliner Reba McIntyre really was to old school country for me and just didnt feel overly accessible. Darius Rucker I would see again though and Una Healy was enjoyable. Still wish Zac Brown Band had been performing on the Saturday.
Had to skip Good Charlotte which Im still unhappy about and for the second year running could get myself organised to see Disciples of Sould. I also missed Green Day as I opted for ELO on the same day.

a tough one but mine is;
1. Helloween in Stuttgart, never seen them and been desperate to for about 15 years and finally got to, a class set of nearly 3 hours.
2. Queen - reasons Andy gave above were fitting enough really.
3 - Steve van zandt and the disciples of soul - I only knew 4-5 songs and didn't expect much at all but was utter sheer class, why did I expect anything else? was really really impressed and enjoyed every minute.
to be fair the top 3 are so close they can only be split by a hair. seen plenty of other bands but these three stuck out completely for me this year.
