Mispacked toy. Clearly Sideswipe = red robot.

And it's not a singular mispacked oddity, all the MB Sideswipes were Sunstreaker. Interesting story behind why, you can read about it here: 20thcenturytoycollector.com/mb-transformers-part-6/And worth noting it came with Sideswipe instructions and stickers, to confuse the kids. Unrelated to the bio/toy swap: when they decided to release Sunstreaker as yellow in TFs, someone forgot to change the stickers on his shoulders to yellow.

Big Phil's right! He's right! It hurts, I know, but the theory is sound. The brothers should have been the other way round. IT MAKES MORE SENSE. As I've said before, I agree with this too! The tech specs pretty much prove it.

The Sunstreaker design also has 'piledriver arms' compared to the Sideswipe 'T-Rex with boxing glove' arms. But they are now who they are after 33 years.

I'm sure M will be along shortly to play Substitute Ralph and scorn this idea How does Ransack and Scavenge(r) mean remotely the same thing?? Nonsense. Ransack: to go through (a place) stealing things and causing damage. Scavenge: search for and collect (anything usable) from discarded waste.

How many Scavenger Toys do you own? has reminded me I have mad theory about the Robots in Disguise Vehicon repaint set. Scavenger Mirage GT Nightcruz The theory is quite simple: Mirage & Scavenger, somewhere along the line, had their colours swapped. Mirage, a race car, is Yellow & Black and Scavenger, a construction vehicle of sorts, is Blue & White. Swap the round and Mirage becomes a white and blue racing car, a homage to the G1 character, and Scavenger becomes a yellow & black construction vehicle, sensible colours for such an item.

But wouldn't someone have noticed the colours got mixed up on two toys before it hit production? Especially if there was meant to be an intentional homage?
And Scavenger was green originally at the the time of Mirage.
And where does Nightcruz fit into it??

Nightcruz is trying to do a blackbird in blackbird colours since they made a mess of Spystreak's colours www.tfu.info/2001/Vehicon/SpyStreak/spystreak.htmI never claimed Scavenger was a homage to the original, merely that the construction vehicle colours on him made more sense. But by this point Constructicon Scavenger had been yellow three times (Euro 86 (not UK), Euro 92 and G2) There's a long history of people not spotting obvious colour errors in Transformers!

But wouldn't someone have noticed the colours got mixed up on two toys before it hit production? Especially if there was meant to be an intentional homage? It depends on how the process is/was; sometimes this kind of thing is done using a colour mapping where you say colour A goes here, B goes there and then a separate table says A = blue, B = white. So all that has to happen is the tables get mixed up. Then if the original designer is not involved in QC it can easily get missed. These kinds of things have been tightened up much more though both for technical reasons and because companies care more about their high-profile brands; it probably isn't even possible now.

It's a series that had a flying shark as a main character, and an SUV swung around the city spider-man style. I don't think they were too plussed about having a not-really-a-construction-vehicle repaint be blue. And as pointed out, Mirage had already been blue.
If the decoes were swapped, it was done so intentionally.
