Sideswipe is the red one, unless he's black. Sunstreaker is the yellow one with red bits, unless his mold has been broken and we'll never ever get him again.....

Who is who? Sideswipe's the red one? what do you mean? The Revelation! Of Moons ago! The terrible Revelation! It has sown doubt and disassociation! Sideswipe should have been Sunstreaker, and Sunstreaker should have been Sideswipe!!! PHIIILLLL!!!!!!!! Sideswipe is the red one, Sunstreaker is, as the name infers, the yellow one. The problem is, when you read their tech specs and TFU entries, that their tech specs describe the other's robot & vehicle modes and weapons. Sideswipe is nearly the equal of his twin brother, Sunstreaker, in the combat arts, but less cold blooded. Relishes a fight to the finish with an opponent. Uses underhanded tactics when absolutely necessary. Arms act as powerful pile drivers. Flies for up to 2 minutes with rocket backpack. Fires flares visible for 18 miles. Rash actions often lead to injuries to himself. Takes them all in stride. The pile drivers are Sunstreaker's arms. The rocket backpack is the Super Charger in robot mode. The flares are the things mounted on Sunstreaker's shoulders. The complete egotist, Sunstreaker thinks he is the most beautiful thing on Earth. Loves his sleek styling, contemptuous of other Autobot race cars (particularly his twin Sideswipe). Fires laser-guided ground-to-air rockets and high energy electron pulses at 300 bursts/sec. Tough polymer-steel skin resists artillery. Not a team player. Can be baited into dangerous situations, but is a very calm, competent, and ruthless war machine. His styling is less sleek due to the super charger. The laser-guided ground-to-air rockets are Sideswipe's shoulder launcher. The high energy electron pulses come from Sideswipe's gun. More? Profile: Although nearly as capable as his twin brother Sunstreaker in the combat arts, Sideswipe is far less cold-blooded about it. He thoroughly relishes engaging an opponent in a fight to the finish, and will use any dirty underhanded tactic he can think of to come out on top. Back on his homeworld of Cybertron this conduct extended itself to the rest of his lifestyle: getting what he can out of life, enjoying it to the fullest, and cheating to get the rest. His exile to Earth hasn't changed his behavior, just his cause - now instead of doing everything for himself he does it for the sake of freedom for all. Personal safety takes a backseat to his reckless, but brave actions.
Abilities: In Autobot mode, Sideswipe's two arms can be used as piledrivers. Each exerts 8000 pounds of force upon impact with up to five impacts per second, making him particularly useful in close combat and for breaking through fortifications. A rocket back-pack can sustain him in the air for two minute spurts before refueling is necessary. When launched, two shoulder-mounted magnesium phosphorous flares can each be seen from a distance of 18 miles on a clear night.
Weaknesses: If it weren't for his rash behavior, Sideswipe wouldn't have any serious weaknesses. But as he often acts without consideration of the consequences and takes a special delight in plunging into extremely dangerous situations, Sideswipe, more than any other Autobot, finds himself being patched together by Chief Medical Officer Ratchet. Naturally, he takes his injuries in stride. The makes it clear there are TWO flares. Sideswipe has one launcher. Sunstreaker is the one that spends most of the TF comic injured. Profile: Sunstreaker is the complete egotist. He feels he is simply the most beautiful thing on Earth. He is constantly discussing his sleek lines, his aerodynamic styling and he is loudly and continually grateful to the Ark for giving him such a magnificent body. Sunstreaker is faintly contemptuous of the other sports-car Autobots, particularly his fraternal twin Sideswipe, whose design, he says, is spoiled by the rear-mounted engine in his automobile mode. When he is in his robot mode, Sunstreaker is the most dangerous, most ruthless of the group; a calm, competent war machine. His biggest fault is his tendency to stop so that people can admire him when he ought to be tending to business.
Abilities: In Autobot mode, Sunstreaker wears a right shoulder-mounted, laser-guided, ground-to-air missile launcher. Each missile is the equivalent of 450 lbs. of TNT and can down a Decepticon jet fighter at a maximum distance of 37.5 miles. He also carries an electron-pulse gun capable of emitting at 300 bursts per second a beam of highly energized electrons (the high rate of emission makes it effectively a continuous stream of electrons). A sustained burst of 1.5 seconds will burn a 3 inch hole in a .5 inch-thick plate of titanium-alloy steel. His upper torso construction incorporates a tough polymer-steel skin, making him particularly resistant to artillery fire.
Weaknesses: A potent arsenal and tough hide like Sunstreaker's would be sufficient to preclude any serious weaknesses, if it weren't for his ego and sociopathic tendencies. His inability to be a team player and overriding lust for battle often diminish his overall value to the Autobots, and the ease with which he can be baited by anyone, including adversaries, often puts his well-being in serious jeopardy. Sunstreaker has the rear mounted engine, not Sideswipe! Sideswipe has the one shoulder mounted missile. Sideswipe has the gun Sunstreaker doesn't. So Sideswipe should be a Red Countach Super Tuning, like the Diaclone version www.diaclone.net/orid/dia036/index.htmlSunstreaker should be a Yellow New Countach, like what we know as Tigertrack www.tfu.info/2003/Cybertron/Tigertrack/tigertrack.htmQuad Erat Demonstrandum. Again.

My Sideswipe/Sunstreaker Question.... ....who is who...? Sunstreaker is the egotist who freaks out if he gets even a minor ding and used to be a showy combat athlete. Sideswipe is the stone-scrapper who jumped at the chance to volunteer for Grimlock's Firestormers because he was at a loose end without a war to fight. Leastwise, that's the way I tell the difference... Karl

I can tell the difference between them, it's more a case that they should be the other way round. The toy that is Sideswipe should be yellow and be Sunstreaker, and the toy that is Sunstreaker should be red and be Sideswipe. The molds fit the other character (& techspecs) better -but that conflicts with my nostalgic view of them and therefore gives me a brain-ache. There is no solution. So my sad disassociation with these characters has no end.

It's not lunatic it's there in print on the boxes and in the comics.
I've not even mentioned Sunstreaker's miscoloured stickers.
The evidence is overwhelming that there was a massive cock up somewhere along the line.

However I very much prefer the New Countach in Red as Sideswipe and the Super Tuning in Yellow as Sunstreaker even beyond attachment and nostalgia that says that colour goes with that mould.

Is the same not true of Starscream and Skywarp? And Flywheels and Battletrap? And Dogfight and Windsweeper? The switches happened quite commonly and should be confined to the vaults of curio and never fretted upon again.

I don't think that the deco's are switched on Skywarp and Thundercracker, or the profiles. But the Tech Specs do seem to have been transposed on the original releases - Skywarp has higher rank and intelligence than Starscream which doesn't line up at all with the profiles. But the actual toys seem to be fine that way around.

They're Techspecs are all swapped around to buggery, but at least they're bios are ok. I can buy Flywheels and Battletrap, but that doesn't stand out to me all that much. I had Battletrap as a child and felt the name suited him. But the name 'Flywheels' doesn't suite the Flywheels mold though, that's for sure. Windsweeper and Dogfight though...?

Frakkin' 'eck, I could stand another twat-tastic swap-a-rama with some more of my most nostalgasmic characters....

I always thought there was a good chance that Snare & Boss, VS packed in Japan, had had there colours swapped. Boss' blue fits better with the Predators while Snare's red does the same with the Turbomasters and gives Boss the appearance of a car Optimus which would suit the name. (Photoshops please!)
