Click on the Boss link.
Look at the head.
Now imagine the pale blue body in red but still with the dark blue head.
It's Optimus

Is the same not true of Starscream and Skywarp? And Flywheels and Battletrap? And Dogfight and Windsweeper? The switches happened quite commonly and should be confined to the vaults of curio and never fretted upon again. Totally MEGA-right about Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp. They're Techspecs are all swapped around to buggery, but at least they're bios are ok. I can buy Flywheels and Battletrap, but that doesn't stand out to me all that much. I had Battletrap as a child and felt the name suited him. But the name 'Flywheels' doesn't suite the Flywheels mold though, that's for sure. Windsweeper and Dogfight though...? I think with Windweeper and Dogfight it's due to the way the weapons work. Dogfight has Crankcase and Ruckus's winding gears mechanism, and Windsweeper has the spring loaded Triggerbot gimmick.

There's some speculation with the colours too that Dogfight seems to fit the Decepticons mix of blues and purples better www.tfu.info/subgroup/trigger.htmI'd never looked too closely before so hadn't spotted the resemblance between Windsweeper's head and Leozak's

Windsweeper and Dogfight: Because they are the sole members of their groups who use the different method of activating their gimmick, and because Windsweeper's robot mode actually kinda looks heroic and Dogfight's looks pretty mean.

No, 'tis the twisted loins from which G2 sprang! Fully formed! Like in those stories.

That makes sense. (Full disclosure: Dogfight is the only one of those folks I've actually owned, so my experience of them is limited) Karl

I really thought the triggercons operated the same way? you say they're different? Same! I only have Backstreet, and I thought they were all trigger activated springs.

Nope!
Backstreet, Override and Windsweeper all have chrome guns that are spring loaded and flick out when you press in the tab. Crankcase, Ruckus and Dogfight all have guns that match their colour schemes that unveil slowly on friction mechanisms when you slide the tab to release them.
I started thinking about this a couple of weeks ago. In the same way the Autobot targetmasters all had metal pins holding their joints together while the 'cons just had a plastic peg & clip design (some more fragile than others, Aimless), it felt like the Triggerbots should have all had the chrome, spring-loaded guns while the 'cons had the matte friction-driven guns. I guess somebody at Hasbro decided to mix them up after the designs were finalised.

Here's another Universe Ratchet www.tfu.info/2003/Autobot/AutobotRatchet/ratchet.htmUniverse Inferno www.tfu.info/2003/Autobot/TFUInferno/inferno.htmtfwiki.net/wiki/Red_Alert_%28G1%29#NotesThe color schemes for the Universe (2003) versions of Inferno and Robots in Disguise Spy Changer Prowl are clearly based on Red Alert's Generation 1 look. Inferno in particular caused a great deal of fan confusion when first released; here was a toy named Inferno, decorated like Red Alert, released alongside a toy named Ratchet, decorated like Inferno. Hasbro design director Aaron Archer (in his online "Orson" persona) disclosed that this was the result of a mistake in the naming process.

That's fascinating. I've never seen that. So Cliffjumper was Blow-Out? Weird. All this historical stuff should be documented properly. See if anyone asked me I'd say Bob did the characters, but that article says otherwise. These people so need to be properly interviewed. Why hasn't that ever been done?

Yeah, wiki's are like bottomless pits though. There's no index so you often can't find what you're looking for easily and they're so big that it's very easy to miss information simply because it's on a page with a name you wouldn't think of using, or it's organised in a way that makes sense to the creator but not you. No, what I mean is there should be a proper history of how the line was created, like a super in-depth version of the commentary that's in the IDW Classics UK volumes.
I think the stumbling block for this might be the simple fact that no one involved seems to remember very much. When trying to do research for the Sunbow Sunday thread, the interviews with creators I've come across - or the ones on DVDs - usually amount to very little or the questions being asked aren't very good.

As I've said many times previously I think the Scourge name was wrongly used back in 2001 and that he should have been Mega Octane, a name with more fuel related connotations and linking to his alt mode. Scourge is not Mega Octane, To think that is insane! Ralph desires a Black Convoy, Though the sword makes folk cry: "Oy!" -Ralph

Yet again Ralph fails to see my point that the name mega octane is more apropriate for this toy, carrying high octane fuel hence the Triplechanger's name, than it is for the Combaticon Leader.
I wouldn't have used Scourge at all, too Galvatron henchman for me.
