Well you see, They originally were the "Decepticon Strike Planes." However, Starscream got bored one day and picked up a little book called Harry Potter. Totally taken in by this world, he pushed it onto Thundercracker, and the Coneheads. Skywarp would have none of it though. Reading? That's so lame. The other strike planes too became smitten by it. Finally they forced Skywarp to watch the movies, and he too became a big fan. However, instead or writing fan slash fic with their uber mary sues like other Potter fans, and possessing the unique ability to fly, they decided to start their own Quidditch league! Though, they encountered two severe problems... There was no one on earth who could play with them, and all six of them wanted to be the team "Seeker." This started a ton of in fighting, until Megatron eventually stepped in, and declaired them all to be his "Seekers", if only to shut them the slag up.
So I have said, so shall it be.

Meanwhile, I will use "Generation One" for products that actually feature those words but refuse to retroactively apply it as a blanket term, just like I refuse to call "Star Wars" "A New Hope". Before anyone points it out, I know that there's a degree of hypocrisy as my website has a "Generation 1" section, but what else am I supposed to call them? I think IDW made the right choice in branding their reprints of the Marvel era as 'Classic'. I think that's as good a term as any to refer to everything (toys, comics, cartoons) prior to Beast Wars. This isn't a question to be sarcastic, dismissive, or snide. It's a serious, genuine and earnest question. What's the difference, Strike Plane vs Strike Jet? I would of thought that to be pretty obvious: a Strike Jet must have a jet engine to be a "jet", whilst a plane doesn't have to have one but can. Maybe i'm wrong....

No. The question is what is the difference between "seeker" and Strike Jet. Someone tampered with the censor. Annoying as hell to have a serious conversation. The question is ment to ask, why in the world does it matter?

Just to keep the thread going, _my_ biggest Decepticon jet-related peeve is aeroplanes flying in space. This is aimed squarely at the cartoon series - except in the comic of 'The Big Broadcast of 2006', I'm not sure if we ever had Decepticon jets or Aerialbots flying in space inflicted on us in the Marvel comics.
Jets are propelled by sucking air in at the front and out at the back. Their wings provide lift by the differential pressure of air running over and under them. There is no air in space.
Yes, you could say that while in space, Transformers propel themselves by some other advanced alien technology. But if that's available to them, it shouldn't be restricted to Transformers shaped like aeroplanes - car and cassette tape Transformers could use it to.
I say the only Transformers capable of space travel are the ones where that ability is specified in their tech-specs or TF Universe entries - Sky Lynx, Astrotrain, Cosmos, Omega Supreme, etc.

The difference for me is possibly that "seeker" appears to be a job description - seeking out the enemy like hunters.

They clearly DRIVE in space, as shown in Energon.

hey all, i have decided to assemble the big 6 of the decepticon strike plane group. scream, cracker, warp, dirge, thrust and ram...
i want to do it a bit differrently though!
these are my rules.
no repeated molds. i want each character to have his own mold, not just the normal line of repaints.
colours should be based on original palette
alt modes should be flying machines
all figures should have rough scale, all deluxe, voyager etc...
all lines and sizes are acceptable -but- i would prefer not to use the g1s, i have them and love them but to this day the fist pocket kibble drives me into a rage...
can this be done? and which molds fit the characters best?

ROTF Thrust, anyone? Well, I like it... Fairly certain there was a Dirge coloured toy around that time as well, don't remember if he was called Dirge though.
