Itvdoes sound like the plot from a sunbow episode about a weather machine and fat calf in which starscream gets a nice coat.
Hey kids, shake it loose together The spotlight's hitting something That's been known to change the weather We'll kill the fatted calf tonight So stick around You're gonna hear electric music Solid walls of sound
Say, Carly and Spike, have you seen them yet Uh but they're so spaced out, S-S-Starscream and the Jets Oh but they're weird and they're terrible Oh Starscream he's really keen he's got electric boots a mohair suit You know I read it in a magazine S-S-S-Starscream and the Jets

I prefer fighter jets to strike planes, would that be acceptable? Sadly not as thes characters were not referred to as fighter jets in the same way they were never seekers! *foams at mouth* -Ralph

Guys, chill. They're just 'The jets'. Doesn't that mean they have to have a dance battle with "The Sharks"? Karl (Seekers? Masterpiece Starscream has four under his wings, one on the end of each of the Sidewinders)

I actually call them seekers but I voted Strike Planes as I'm really scared of Turnbull's wrath

I used to call them Seekers until I was brain-washed -er, I mean, re-educated, by The Hub.
I do genuinely prefer Strike Planes though.

I would happily still be calling them seekers but for the pain that causes here, but Shockprowl is quite right in his definition. I'd not really thought about it like that.
So where does 'seeker' come from?

So where does 'seeker' come from? According to the wiki, it's believed it comes from an '84 JC Penny catalogue, which made a few references. Which seems kinda nebulous to me. Until Seekers started to gain popularity in the nineties, Skyraiders seemed the most popular. I just called them Decepticon Jets. tfwiki.net/wiki/Seeker_(body-type)#Origin_of_the_term

Ah, I see what this is all about now. So the first UK pack in catalogue referred to them as Strike Planes, so they must ever be called thus on these shores, whereas early promo material in the US referred to them as Seekers with a capital S, thus making it a proper noun rather than a more generic common one and therefore their name. And so war broke out between nations.
