I know, I just didn't expect it in toy form.

I bet it's some really clever lock and release mechanism, whereas the rest of us have been accidentally popping limbs off ball joints for years.

I think it's a nice touch.
It's really all that people remember about Jazz in the movie. Go on, think. Can anyone remember anything else he said or did in the film?

But Optimus gave him such a heartfelt eulogy, he must have been significant to the Autobot cause.

"Alas, Poor Jazz. I shall never forget that time he called you humans "lil bitches," or that time he did that sick spin kick transformation he did. Whatever. Dump him in the ocean." Optimus shrugged.
"Optimus, he was only torn in half. It's not a big deal, I can fix him." Ratchet protested.
"Dump. Him. In. The. Ocean. We need to make room for Mudflap and Skids. Those dudes are HILARIOUS."

I've said all along that one of the major put offs for me has been the Movie TF aesthetics. Only the Cybertron sequences in Bumblebee had Transformers who looked like they were Transformers

I think the Studio Series voyager does this starscream better. Certainly makes a better jet.
I would disagree about Bumblebee. I think all the way through, they look like proper transformers.

Only the Cybertron sequences in Bumblebee had Transformers who looked like they were Transformers Disagree. (I'm with Toph on this one.) The TFs in Bumblebee who appeared both on Cybertron and Earth/elsewhere - Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Prime, Blitzwing, Dropkick and Shatter - looked essentially the same throughout the film in robot mode whatever planet they were on. Soundwave, Ravage, Shockwave, Wheeljack and the Strike Planes (who looked the same on Cybertron in robot mode as Blitzwing did on Earth) looked great. But Brawn, Ironhide, Ratchet and Arcee were a disappointment, as they were made as close as possible to their Sunbow likenesses, which made them look rather like cartoon characters, and detracted from the realism of the pre-Earth sequence. TFs should look more alien on Cybertron than they do after coming to Earth and meeting humans - not less. Having chosen Brawn, Ironhide and Ratchet to feature they could have given the fans just as much a thrill by basing them on their alien-looking 1984 toy designs rather than their cartoon model sheets. Frankly, if those CG robots - Brawn, Ironhide, Ratchet and Arcee - had been used in the Earth sequences, interacting with humans, they'd have looked unconvincing and cartoonish. But they only appeared for a few seconds, so the film-makers got away with it. Yes, Michael Bay went too far in making his TFs over-complicated and lacking in identifiable colour schemes, but Bumblebee got the balance right (apart from with those four Autobots) - colourful, and complex enough to look convincing in live action, but not so simplistic as to appear like cartoon characters. The 'Visual History' coffee table book that I've had out on a table for the last few months has opened my eyes to the numerous styles TFs have had over the years (many of which passed me by completely). The Bumblebee style is one of the better ones, especially to use in the live-action medium - and the Michael Bay style is not the worst. Martin

For me it's the heads. Transformers has a certain asthetic carried through to the robot heads. For me, the movie heads are perfectly fine for what they are but never look like Transformers. Studio Series is a decent toy line but doesn't look like Transformers (for me). -Ralph

I think the gulf between the style of the faces on the 1984-5 toys and the Sunbow cartoon is greater than the gulf between the style of the 1984-5 toys and the Bumblebee movie - not least for the title character.

The movie aesthetic I don't mind at all... on screen. (At least when properly shot, lit, and given decent colour schemes so you can tell the characters apart.) But as toys it really doesn't work, with probably only a handful of exceptions.
I also really like the design of Doritoscream, despite his not looking much like his G1 counterpart at all, and I love original Voyager because of its interesting transformation sequence. This... looks okay. But certainly not essential.
The main crime this one commits is in seemingly having forgotten what "Masterpiece" toys are meant to be about. All of the other movie Masterpieces feature fairly realistic-looking vehicle modes, but this jet seems to have way too much kibble on its undercarriage. Sure, some of that looks to come from the weapons, which I'm sure can be removed, but even so there seems to be several extraneous bits poking out here and there. I mean it's possible that they're not able to recreate the likeness too closely for reasons of military security, but even so they could do better than this - it's really not what I'd expect from a true "Masterpiece".
Worse, this isn't the first "Movie Masterpiece" Starscream - that honour goes to Takara's repaint of the RotF/HFTD Leader Starscream, which was cheaper, just as realistic, and looked to have more fun play features. I really can't see what this is bringing to the table at all...
