Pretenders are pretty crazy good, actually. But they don't make any sense. They're supposed to be extra in disguise aren't they? But, for Transformery robots to hide inside, the extra in-disguise bits, the shells, have to be freaking HUGE!!! So, what, are they saying that ALL alien life out-there is huge in size, and us humans are just tiny?!?! IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE! They do look great though, and the extra play-factor was/is a brilliant idea. Shame Power of the Primes shit all over them (IMO).

Pretenders are a nonsense idea in Western media but make for fun toys. Not all toy ideas translate into something that makes sense.
The Masterforce cartoon makes the Pretenders absolutely amazing as concepts though. Well until the Godmasters arrive!

Anyway, I've never really given his inner robot much thought. Looks nice. An amphibious vehicle. We never saw his inner robot in fiction did we? Even when he appeared with that chunk of the Matrix in Cybertron's past he, confusingly, already had his Shell.
