They're taking a huge gamble if that's true. I didn't even pay that for FT Omega Supreme, and he's the size of a small child.

Ya know... I was thinking just the other day that even if BW MPs are super successful, there's no way they'd do the entire show's cast, because Megatron and Dinobot are on the upper end of price feasibility, while Rampage, Depth Charge, Tigerhawk, and TM2 Megatron are all bigger than him.
And then Optimal Optimus is the size of a small to medium Autobot compared to all the rest, and a scale accurate OpOp would easily be in the $1k range.
But then this BS is in the same price ballpark the previously mentioned would be.
This is nonsense. I swallowed it for Dinobot and Megatron, even though they are far too expensive. I did so because we don't get Beast Wars every day. But this is BS. We get at least ten new G1 (styled, at least) Optimus toys a year. There's absolutely no reason for this to cost so much, other than greed-
1) We know it's over priced because we have an identically scaled Optimus toy with far better detailing for a fourth of this price.
2) We also know Takara will repaint the hell out of this to every possible deco they can, which spreads the cost of the tooling and design work.
So yeah... even if I were actually all about the MP line, and all about Sunbow accuracy, I'd still be saying screw this.
The only way Takara will be punished for doing things this expensive is if people stop buying them.

My only fear if that were indeed to happen is that Takara's take-away from that would be that people no longer wanted to buy Masterpiece Transformer toys, and not "lads, we might have done fucked up on the pricing". Because that's how large businesses work. And naturally, given that I need to possess one of almost every Optimus Prime, I will of course be getting one of these despite the pri-ahahahahano of course I'm fucking not. |

That logic is actually one of the main reasons I forked out for Dinobot and Megatron, because their takeaway would be "beast wars doesn't sell." But I think this one case wouldn't kill the G1 Sunbow MP line. They have too big a hard on for it. But then, what do I know? MP may be floundering, given it's only purpose is to make overpriced, missized, and under detailed Sunbow toys and nothing else. I genuinely think that target audience is a lot smaller (just extremely loud) than people say it is. I mean we know more about upcoming movie MPs than we do the next G1 MPs. |

I'd love a more toon accurate Prime to match the Megatron, and I'm not a fan of MP10's legs, but £350? I can't spend that on a toy.
