This is a tough one - I was hoping the selection would be broken down into either the assortments (seeing as they are displayed on the leaflets in this way) or Classic & New characters. The assortment would have been better - as that's what I remember being faced with back in the day when I discovered each set in different shops.
Oh well, there are always extra polls - and will you do an Extra poll on the companions alone?
This will take some time to decide:
Either Jazz, Jackpot, Mainframe, Blaster or Bumblebee. (So breaking down into assortments wouldn't have help me much anyway) They are all so good!!!

Ho ho!
Well, obviously Blaster would be better if he came with a lion and/or a rhino.
Sideswipe and Tracks should have had the Turbo-Pack and Flight-Pack.
A Soundwave variant with Catgut.
Tyrannitron for Grimlock.

Oops. Forgot to vote last week. I can’t think what might have been monopolising my attention... Anyhoo.
Difficult one this. The Action Masters line was such a find that I don’t think I can disentangle the realisation that previously unavailable characters (or ones I had simply never got) were suddenly available from how they objectively look.
But trying my best, I’ll have to go with Grimlock. Not just because he’s Grimlock, and was my first Action Master, but because that colour scheme still pops.

On the catalogue, Banzai-Tron is partnered not with Razor-Sharp, not even with someone else's AM partner, but with a recoloured Octopunch. Martin

An Action Master Companion is his own person. If they decide to go separate ways from their partner and team up with someone else then that is their right.
It's not like they are married because they are just simple robots and marraige is a person thing.

There are MANY ways the Action Masters could have been split up, but since Autobot & Decepticon is how we've done it all along that's what I went for here. Interestingly the groups shown on the catalogue - there's 3 groups of six - directly represent the case assortments available: www.fredsworkshop.com/1990.htmlEach Action Master was evenly packed within a case. I have 2 shipping cases for single carded AMs, will have to find the 3rd somehow! Went for Skyfall, always liked the animal and robo partners over the boring things like back packs and lawnmowers.

Funnily enough my daughter got my other Action Masters out the other day, and she really loves them, especially the new characters (for some definition of "new"...). Treadshot is now officially female, and an undercover Autobot agent. Ahhh yes, this kind of thing is a regular occurrence with the Shockprowl Girls... They're good at their 'intricate explanations' aren't they? Marvelous beings. To the Galvachildren we must listen...

For most of us in the UK there was no better Blaster, either. Blaster, Devastator and Shockwave were the big sellers for me. Bought on sight the day I first saw them. Yes I was the same. I'd lost interest in Transformers, but then... THEN.... THEY STARTED DOING THE ORIGINAL CHARACTERS AGAIN....That is why I still hold a certain nostalgia for the Action Masters... even though fundamentally... THEY WHERE A MISTAKE. But, back then, it was -for me- Blaster, Grimlock, and SHOCKWAVE, (then later Prowl and Starscream) that grabbed my attention. I never saw Soundwave, Devastator, or any other '84ers. And Blaster and Shockwave were my first. Prominent in the comic I'd read, and forever absent in the toys I'd collected. It was wonderful to have a ( -posseable-) figure of these characters.

Blaster was my first Action Master.
Still can't decide who is the best though.
But it's definitely not Snarl. I think he was the worse figure. No Spikey tail wings and a bright yellow face. Where does that come from!?

After Bludgeon, Octopunch, Stranglehold, Longtooth and Action Master Grimlock, Simon Furman had created so many iconic weapons for characters that were missing from the toys he was supposed to be selling that it's a wonder he didn't go the whole hog in US #80 and give AM Prime energon nunchaku and a giant mallet.

Let's talk about the selection of Autobot characters... In 1990, they did Action Masters of Prowl, Wheeljack, Jazz and Inferno - four out of six of the characters that they released in Europe as Classic Heroes at the same time. Ironhide and Sunstreaker are missing.
In 1991, Sideswipe and Tracks joined the ranks of both the Action Masters _and_ the Classic Heroes, and Ironhide and Sunstreaker were dropped from the Classic Heroes line.
Did they originally plan to do Action Masters of Ironhide and Sunstreaker, or did they always know they were the two Classic Heroes that would only be produced for one year (while Prowl, Wheeljack, Inferno and Jazz were continued for a second year)? Were those two judged less popular/marketable from day one, or did they wait and drop them from the Classics line and AM line-up based on poor Classic Hero sales for those two?
What order did the 1990 toys come out in? Could sales of the Classics have influenced the AM line-up?

Obviously Action Masters are something of a Hub favourite, but they're not something I've ever been able to get excited about. I like the fact there are new characters here, but most of them seem to be Jazz knockoffs. Apart from Jazz, who appears to be knocking himself off with that trolley he's got. Jazz? On a trolley?
I'm going for Jackpot on the grounds the colour scheme is cool and had we ever had a G1 reuse of the Jazz mould in the west, this would have trumped Stepper. I recall the Botcon repaint of Animated Jazz exciting me some years ago.
