Reflector is my favourite Reflector, but it doesn't appear to be an option, can you add that please? And Micromasters should definitely be voted for as Patrols/Squads. Voting on individual members should be in the extra poll thread. I feel you have found the solution! -Ralph

What a marvelous debate! Truely a sign of the Hub's greatness! Light-hearted, but probing discussion, around a spine of madness from Doc' and Big Phi!
I'm not sure who I'm going to vote for though. I just think of them as Reflector. I only own the 3P MP-style toys, which mirror the cartoon. The cartoon had a different take in Refector, and seemed to indicate he was one robot who could 'make' copies of himself, and needed two copies inorder to transform. I remember one episode -Megatron's Master Plan was it?- where the Reflector copies are knocked into the 'prime' Reflector, and are absorbed back into him. Which I found interesting, and indeed is how me 'n' the little'un play with him during our Transformer/Pony/Moshi crossovers. Predictabily though the cartoon was inconsistent, and there were also 'perminent' Reflector copies seen (often ill-treated).

Does anyone know how many rub-signs Reflector had? Optimus Prime and Metroplex only had one, but the Spy Cassettes had one each, as with tech-specs. Photos I've seen suggest Reflector only has one rub-sign, on Viewfinder, which would support him being seen as a single toy, like Prime, Metroplex and the Duocons. Martin Just the one rubsign, on Viewfinder. Other 2 have basic Decep logos on their chest, no rubbing required to see which faction they are.

One more day and we'll get to something we care about! Yes, it'd be nice to have a poll about complete toys rather than parts of a toy. Martin

And a poll with just toys listed, rather than including a watch.

Somewaht unsurprisingly the toy that looks like the cartoon Reflector is our favourite robot in the Reflector team!

Week 22: What is the best Aerialbot on the UK Special Teams catalogue?

*applauds* Well done Phil! I was wondering how you'd top the contentiousness of last week's poll, and here we are. Superb! Thank you. Back to normality next week, unless anyone wants to play the "THAT'S NOT A PROPER TRANSFORMERS CATALOGUE!! !!" card. Surely Phil is not thinking of using illegal catalogues now too???!!! -Ralph I'm sure Burns will back me on this one! On current form that seems unlikely! -Ralph I know the document I refer to is a Burns favourite. SPECIAL TEAMS! -Ralph Happy?

Ahh that's more like it. Never owned the whole set of this one, think I have all the limbs but no Silverbolt. Made up for that with Combiner Wars, but only after having to import Air Raid (as I'm sure you all had similar experiences).
Don't like Slingshot's arms, Fireflight is a little snub-nosed. So between Air Raid & Skydive… I like how Air Raid is an Autobot F-15, and the black too. Skydive has those pointy wing tips. Transforming Air Raid is a 'thumb between the tailfins affair, whereas Skydive a different pinch. lol…
Screw it, gonna go with Air Raid.

As many will know I have a long standing grievance against the Aerialbots, namely that the first plane combiner should have been Decepticon, and Hasbro/Takara have continued to troll me in the intervening 30+ years by making a total of ONE Decepticon Plane combiner and then at a smaller size. Air Raid is my favourite of the smaller planes, who don't seem to work as well as some other vehicles with the Special Team/Scramble City gimmick, the main victim being some slightly odd thin arms. So I think this one has to go to Silverbolt. I remember being pleasantly surprised when I first owned one (the G2 version) by the toy and the base mode was a real surprise: even though I'd had Onslaught I had no idea the other leaders had bases. kayevcee: Phil needs the G1 Aerialbots! They're the only G1 combiner team I have no version of. Make it so for 2019 please!

I'm glad evolution didn't stick with the pattern of the first format being the only acceptable format...! I just felt the first combiners on each side should be representative and it is, still, mainly Autobot Cars vs Decepticon jets as the theme in 1986. (OK yes, Devastator was the year before) It's interesting that when the theme changes in 1987 the combiners there represent that!

Bad Phil! There is no reason why Autobots can't be planes!!!
The only poll answer is Silverbolt as he is the only memorable one. He is also fastest.

Given that I have strong memories of getting Slingshot when given the choice in Fine Fare's back in the day, I have to bow to my junior self's decision on this one (granted, the more expensive Silverbolt was off the table). Plus I like Harriers.
Granted, this is based purely on the toys. From memory in the cartoon he was a bit of a dick, so that possibly would've swung my choice if I'd seen those episodes before going out for the weekly shop.

Yup, Headmasters, Combiners and Clones represent the new theme, which continues on into 1988's Pretenders, while the Targetmasters are still the original one.

I have owned them all. Silverbolt is rubbish, by far the worst toy of the Special Teams leaders. (And he's scared of heights!) Slingshot was also rather poor, but the other three were good. I always had a soft spot for the strategist Skydive, who was the most skilful flyer, able to mimic anything else that flies. But Air Raid is the coolest, a black F15 like Skywarp and the best fighter in the team. In 'Aerialbots Over America' he practically won the battle on his own, using his torque rifle to mangle Ramjet's nose and Shrapnel's electrodes. In terms of cars vs planes, the original rule holds a lot of the time: Hot Rod & co. cars - Cyclonus & Scourge planes Pointblank & co. cars - Misfire & co. planes Getaway & co. cars - Darkwing & Dreadwind planes Double Targetmasters - 3 Autobot ground vehicles - 2 Decepticon flyers + Quake First wave of Micromasters - 2 Autobot car patrols - Decepticon Air Strike Patrol Martin

Further tech-specs analysis:
Air Raid and Fireflight are the bravest, but they're all quite brave, Skydive the least brave with courage 7.
Fireflight is the strongest but the least skilful and least intelligent. Fireflight and Silverbolt have the highest endurance, Skydive and Slingshot the lowest.
Skydive is second-in-command. (Makes sense, being a strategist.) He is physically the weakest, but the fastest, the most intelligent (intelligence 10) and the most skilful (skill 10).
Slingshot is the slowest but the second most skilful after Skydive, and the best shot.
The all have firepower 8 except Fireflight who has firepower 7.

I assume Ralph knows about Silverbolt's third mode? He turns into a very, very short runway. The smaller Aerialbots are the only Special Team members not to have extra weapons to attach in vehicle mode, presumably because fighter jets are already battle vehicles. Martin

Yup, Onslaught has one too. Hotspot doesn't Hotspot has a repair bay mode instead. Hotspot also has an "emergency car carrier" mode on his instructions, making him a four-changer, or a six-changer if you add his Defensor mode and his battle fire engine mode. Motormaster's base mode is cool because he comes with a Roller scout car (actually called Roller on the instructions!), and Onslaught's base mode is solid, with the ramp and big guns. Silverbolt's makes less sense as the ramp is too short for a runway, and the team has no cars to use on it. I'll copy and paste all this into the Extra poll thread when Phil sets up the Special Teams Leaders poll. Which Silverbolt will lose badly. Martin
