Funny how we all remember Drag Strip, but no-one seems to have gotten Fireflight.

Be sullen. Be fatslistic. Be poorly motivated.
But make sure you look nice while you're doing it.

That's a convincing argument to be fair. Dead End does have a really great bio.

You have pleased the King of Prussia, Duke Pinwig of Cleves!
(I thought I'd pick a duchy for you as you still haven't picked one for yourself)

What are you talking about?! It's 1740, Man! Surely you do not expect your King to believe you can, you can, you can, SEE what is to come?!?! Cleves is a Hohenzollern domain and shalt forever remain so!

What are you talking about?! It's 1740, Man! No it's not, it's nearly bed-time. But, right, after a lot of dithering, I shall have to go for... Motormaster. The toy always bugged me - yes, scale has never been too big of an issue for me, but to have him touted as Optimus Prime's rival, when Prime's toy would go over him as if he was a speed-bump just didn't work for me. But no the other hand, he does have all the features that Ralph mentions, and despite all that... his design's kinda cool. And he has a very iconic face... So yeah. The master of motors it is.

I liked Motormaster's base mode
But I felt stupid transforming him as I was convinced his head shouldn't be in that box, and I was doing something wrong

Week 24: What is the best Protectobot on the UK Special Teams catalogue?
|
|
|
Post by Grand Moff Muffin on Aug 3, 2018 6:40:16 GMT
The Aerialbots and Stunticons had size issues with their leaders' vehicle modes, but that could be ignored more easily than a motorbike the same size as an ambulance and a helicopter. The Protectobots do not look good together in vehicle mode. Which is a shame, as individually they have a lot going for them.
Streetwise is notable for being the only small Special Team member with a head that isn't a cuboid combining post. He also has a nice smooth transformation. And he is of course hero/villain (you decide!) of the Christmas story, 'Stargazing'!
Groove, the first motorcycle TF, looks great when not placed alongside other vehicles. If he turns into a limb of Defensor, presumably he can enlarge in size. Does this mean he can choose to become a giant police motorcycle, which may be ridden by other Autobots? Could Action Master Prowl's Turbo Cycle be Groove? A police car riding a police motorbike?
Blades was the Autobot who met Action Force in London's sewers and saved Wild Bill. Blades and Wild Bill helped Centurion sacrifice himself to save Grimlock and joined Flint in a cheesy final panel salute.
First Aid... never really did much.
Hotspot... light blue fire engine, what's that about? But he was a great toy. I loved his articulated hose thingies, and the way Defensor's head was built into him.

I suspect Hotspot is blue to prevent him being confused with Inferno.
Although blue (and other colour) fire engines do exist, red's the colour usuaully associated with them.

Hotspot (or Hot Spot, if you prefer the packaging to the catalogue) is the strongest, First Aid and Groove the weakest.
First Aid, Groove and Streewise all have intelligence 8+, Hotspot 7, Blades 6.
Blades is the fastest, followed by Streetwise.
Hotspot has the greatest endurance, followed by Groove.
First Aid and Groove are joint second-in-command.
Blades, Hotspot and Streetwise have courage 9, First Aid and Groove courage 7-8.
They all have firepower 6 or 7.
First Aid is the most skilful.

I LOVE A MARTIN TECHSPECS RUNDOWN!!!
Yeah, rhe motorbike thing does not look good. As a boy my brother and I owned all of them apart from Groove. So I never saw the scaletastrophe in the plastic. Combiner Wars did good addressing the problem. Still had Groove as part of the team, but more correctly dized, and introduced a new fairly interesting -in scale- character. They're a great team though. Very well thought out. Very 'Autoboty'- a team designed to protect humans.
Not sure who my favorite is. Always liked Streetwise. 'Interceptor' is a grest function. Toy-wise Blades was good fun.
And yeah, I do think Big Phi's theory is most likely true! So much G1 character repaintability! Well, apart from the helicopter and motorbike...

I will have to think about this one. The Protectobots are my favourite combiner team.
I also feel Phil missed a trick with Motormaster winning last week's poll. Surely he should've been declared KING OF THE POLLS!

Streetwise does have an excellent transformation. I like Hot Spot's as well and his general robotic blockiness. Blades and Groove.. excellent vehicle modes, less so robots. First Aid is a good all rounder. And Defensor is the bee's knees of ramshackly combiner goodness.

Blades. Won him for getting a letter printed in Transformers. If only I could remember which issue. There were one or two others as well…
Don't suppose anyone has digitised / typed up all those letter writers into a spreadsheet? LOL. You may laugh but someone did for 2000 AD.
