Love the Protecobots, a much better representation of the Autobots than the Aerialbots are (ditto Combaticons vs Stunticons)
Streetwise is effectively a Stunticon, he's not offering much new and interesting.
I like Blades and Groove, the scale has never been an issue for me.
Hotspot..... Hotspot is a very nice toy with two very decent main modes, decent torso and bonus points for storing the combined head in the main part of the toy. However he's the worst of the base modes - never had a launcher in Japan - and I can't get past the pale blue which just looks wrong.
So First Aid wins. Nice to have another ambulance, and I love the big dual gun in vehicle mode. I want to mount it on his robot back as some sort of medical apparatus though!

Didn't inflatabledalek have a thing going on his blog where he was trying to find people who'd had letters published in TFUK? I try to recognise names if I know them each week on the re-read, but I think we've only had a couple of hits so far. Checking my current pile, Special Teams mini toys were offered as prizes for letters up to #188, just after Dread Tidings started. After that it changed to just 'mini toy', but that's no hard and fast guarantee that was when the actual change came. I don't have the earlier issues to hand, they're in the archive currently, but I guess Special Teams toys would have come in as the prize some time after Second Generation in #63. So if you had a Blades toy for a letter it would have been between those issues! If you can remember roughly when it was or what the story was around the time it wouldn't be hard to scan through and look for a name. I read them all to put on the 30 Years thread, so it may even have stuck in my mind if it was about a noteworthy topic.

The winner cannot be Groove as that was always a terrible toy. I had the Gobots motorbike toy which was much better and was my stand-in Groove.
Streetwise: great character but shit robot. Did not get a good toy until CW.
Blades: rubbish robot.
So it is down to First Aid and Hotspot which are both good toys. I shall have to ponder.

Best bet is to Google your own name and home town at the time, if I've talked about the letter it'll come up that way (a few egotists have gotten in touch).

The Protectobots are my boys! I love em all! Never had them all at the same time, though, so I've never held a G1 Defensor. That makes me sad.
It's so hard to choose, they've all got something going for them, and no, the scale has never bothered me. I really like Groove and Blades ability to have leg mounted guns in robot mode, that adds a lot to them. Hotspot's pale blue just looks nice, and the fireball decals are a nice touch. First Aid is probably the weakest for me, purely because he's just a good simple robot to ambulance. Streetwise's transformation is simple too, but the bonnet thing was a nice twist, and he has the best head, not being restricted to a square lump.
Streetwise was my first, and I adored him, so he gets my vote. Nostalgia wins!

One letter I wrote asked about about The Body In Question - "were't we told DH was built by some rich dude? What's all this ret-conning?" Though that may have come later - I think there was more than one.

A question about that would have been well past the time Special Teams figures were around to send out I'd think. Unless TFUK had a massive stockpile! Must have been an earlier letter.

Tough choice between Blades, First Aid and (yes) Groove for his uniqueness and penguin-like robot mode. Going to go with Blades though.

Hotspot was a great toy however sometimes the simpler toys are overlooked. Having a simple straightforward Transformer isn't as easy to make as it looks and we don't give such entries enough credit or attention as a 'fandom'. First Aid is not spectacular but has a nice and easy Transformation and looks good in both modes. There also aren't many medical Transformer character so he is a bit more original than most. Add to that a good head design and so he is a winner. FIRST AID.

Would special teams have returned as give aways during classics? Yes, they did. I received a Classic Aerialbot (that's what I was told) First Aid for getting a letter printed in - I think - issue 320. Blaster told me I should be a film star.

I am in the Suffragette film. & a couple of TV episodes. Apart from the paid murder plays, that is about it. And Blaster only said that to avoid answering my question. But Aerialbot First Aid is cool!

The fire engine in Trumpton was red, so Hotspot's colour is not acceptable to Martin. Shame, as he's a great toy otherwise (by 1986 standards, anyway).
Not a fan of Blades's character (especially in G2), but going by the toy alone I think Blades is the best, so he gets my vote. I love Streetwise and First Aid but we've already had a better police car and ambulance. And Groove... the scale thing bugs me too much.
Blades it is.
