I thought it was weird releasing Galvatron in the UK with the function of City Commander, when there was no city in the toy line for him to command. Martin He had Scorponok in the UK - although he had to wait for it to be released before he could command it. Perhaps he then gave up on the idea. Actually - I think Metroplex should wait a while and go up against Scorponok on the '87 leaflet. |

My favourite thing about this week's poll is that it began on page 86.
But yes. The new leaders! Which immediately begs the question: What happened to the old leaders? I hope it's not something bad or generationally scarring...
But a tough decision this one. As ever, I'm going to go on my first impressions from the toy catalogues, which I think still stick. Galvatron looks interesting, but's a bit boxy (and I can't see his light-up effects from the catalogue - although I did and do remember being impressed by them). Magnus, though, what the hell is going on there? A white Optimus Prime? With armour? What the heck is this all about?
Ultra Magnus it is then!

I'd have said if either of them look boxy is Magnus! He's a brick with a head on top and two gangly arms. He's Optimus Prime in a home made cardboard box robot outfit.
Galvatron isn't boxy. He's a mighty barrel-chested leader!

My brother and I both got a Magnus for Christmas one year to stop the arguing, it didn't work. So there's the sentimental vote. But then, my Granch scored a Galavatron for me on one of my trips to Wales..
I think Galvatron wins, electronics, pistol mode AND a canon. Yes.

Seriously it looks completely wrong to me likes hes been to the fair and got a clown face painted on him. This is what happens when you own a toy for over 15 years without knowing other version exists. If small Magnus had ever made a media appearance in victim of bad face painter colours at least young me would have been somewhat prepared for 2002 reissues silliness. As it is I like all white magnus cab. Im not massively happy about he chromed legs either, but worn chrome legs are rubbish and in theory plastic wheels are rubbish but then I see how many Primes have cracked or missing tyres these days and I dont mind the plastic either. |

Even the lack of windscreen doesnt bug me as the smokey colour ruins magnus' all white thing.

My gut reaction for this one was Ultra Magnus. I remember getting him for Christmas, while my brother got Galvatron, but both really are great toys in such different ways. A lot of fun was had with the roleplay aspect of Galvatron and the lights and sounds.
But I'm going to stick with my initial instinct and go with Magnus. Yes, the robot mode is a typical G1 brick, however the play value of also having the inner Prime robot, and the car transporter was high, and I have many fond memories of him carting about my other Autobots in vehicle mode.

Galvatron's good, but as guns go, he's a bit... fat. Bulbous. Bit of a 'non' mode. I know it's 'futiristic', but it's a bit too goofy. He should have been a spaceship or something. |
