Also linking to their two TFU entries. Uncle Bob put a lot of effort into Metroplex's, and it's worth a read: www.ntfa.net/universe/english/index.php?act=view&char=Metroplexwww.ntfa.net/universe/english/index.php?act=view&char=TrypticonThis poll feels odd in my mind, because I go by the comics, and in the comics Trypticon is the size of Omega Supreme and tiny compared to Metroplex. Uncle Bob also shied away from making Fortress Maximus and Scorponok city-sized. But Metroplex was introduced by Simon Furman, who chose to make him actually city-sized in order to fight the Quintessons. So in my mind, Metroplex would never fight Trypticon, unless to step on him. Or, if Trypticon uses his rockets to leap a few miles up into the air, Metroplex might swat him with the palm of his hand. Both have strength 10. Metroplex has intelligence 8, Trypticon 7. Trypticon can fly and has speed 8, Metroplex is slow with speed 2. Trypticon wins on endurance (10 compared to 9). Trypticon has rank 9, Metroplex rank 8 - same as the City Commanders. Who needs 'em? Both have courage and firepower 10. Metroplex has skill 9, Trypticon 8. Martin

Springer was incharge of the Wreckers, but Magnus was in overall command of the Autobots. Well, under Xaaron obviously. Ultra Magnus was just in charge of killing Optimus Prime, and then running off to get Xaaron to make the Wreckers stand down and not kill him after all. Martin

Errrrmm, then Trypticon will have to be disappointed. As dangerous for me as that may be.

I'm told that Trypticon had a limited release in Woolworths back in the day, although I don't remember seeing one. In my defence I was 4.
Trypticon's battery powered bells and whistles are all very impressive when they're on, but the electronic features limit poseability in robot mode AND interaction points in base mode. Metroplex, meanwhile, is unhindered and has interactivity and play features out the WAZOO. Lots of places for minibots to hang out, lots of places to mount weapons (and even combiner limbs) in every mode, lots of wee pals in the box with him... he's just great.
So Metroplex. Metroplex all day.

I've had both for a long old time, Metroplex definitely has more playability.

Metroplex has the shoulder that flips over to make the landing pad, the panel that rotates for a gun emplacement, and the chest door that turns into a ramp. I LOVE stuff that slides out and does interesting things like that.
But also it is an ILLEGAL POLL and so I cannot vote for Trypticon

Well I'm with Big Phil on the legality of this poll.
What else was he supposed to do?
What?!?!
The two first city-formers should go up against eachother. It is.... appropriate.

I'm voting Metroplex, for playability.
I like to think of Trypticon as Omega Supreme's opposite number rather than Metroplex's.
When you think about it, in the comic universe Six-Gun (made from Metroplex's guns) is probably bigger than Trypticon.

I think Metroplex should have waited and gone up against Scorponok in the 1987 UK catalogue - as they are rivals in that one. I think Metroplex will win this one easily as not many of us owned Trypticon back in the day as he wasn't available. Even though Trypticon is made from better plastic, has a walking feature, is bigger, has lights and pretty much forms a better opposing looking city/fortress (not a robot sitting with his legs spread/arms in the air) I will still vote for Metroplex as he was my first Transformer City. I do love the style of his robot mode too. But if I had Trypticon back then, would I vote differently? I got Trypticon years later in 1992 I think and as such still don't compare him to Metroplex because of the time inbetween owning them. Scorponok was our Decepticon City in the UK. But, as I've said before - this is Phil's Poll so he makes the rules - he can pit Minicon Wideload against Masterpiece Soundwave if he wants. And if Metrroplex was up against Scorponok I've no idea how I'd vote!
Anyway, Metroplex it is for me - I remember helping my Dad at his shop and saving the pocket money I earned to get the toy from Argos. I was so impressed by Metroplex's size - the first truly giant transformer I owned!

It's true, this is a totally illegal poll! It should stick directly to the UK catalogue in the first instance, and have Metroplex vs. Metroplex! And then do this one next week!
Or... we could just skip just to stage 2. Like this. Which is fine. ;-) But aye, maybe when we get to the next UK catalogue we could pitch Metroplex against Scorponok anyway. I think those results would be interesting. And then eventually Scorponok against Fort Max. Keep this thing running!
But as to me. Ooooooh... tricky. Being in the UK I didn't see or handle a Trypticon until the recent Platinum re-release (and A1 toys sale), so he's always had a sense of mystique about him; and also he's a giant robot dinosaur thing, so he has that for him as well.
Metroplex though, my brother did have, and I played with him often (Metroplex, not my brother). Despite being not all that tall as a toy, really, Metroplex has nice, chunky proportions that do very much say "walking city". So... Yes. I need to sleep on this one. Baby, baby.

This was a really tough one to decide as both have a lot going for them. Ultimately G1 Metroplex is still on my list to get one day, so I give the vote to him, especially as Trypticon was never really on my radar until the Titans Return version came out. I do love the idea of the Decepticons having a giant robot dinosaur fortress though, and the stomping action looks great fun. Ultimately I can't imagine anyone being unhappy with either (although I've still never played with either G1 version).

I've never had Trypticon, but the stomping around bit looks fun. I did have Metroplex (maybe still do?) and he's a a fun old brick, that I really enjoyed as a child, even if I never put all the sticker on him because I didn't know that the yellow dots were supposed to be apartment block lights for scale. I thought they looked silly. But the helipad! And a giant city tank!
But Trypricon looks so good...
I don't know where to drop a vote this week.

A flying battle-station sized dinosaur sounds very cool, but I had so much fun with Metroplex when I was a boy I cannot not vote for him.

I never thought anyone but Metroplex would win this week, just like I'm pretty sure for the next two weeks too.
Metroplex is one of the iconic toys, Trypticon wasn't sold here. Trypticon's walking Dinosaur is fab, but no humanoid robot and, despite the rotating radar dishes etc, Metroplex's base modes are better.

I never thought anyone but Metroplex would win this week, just like I'm pretty sure for the next two weeks too. Hmmm... tries to work out next two weeks' polls. On this US catalogue, we've still got the Predacons - maybe you're assuming Razorclaw will win that. Then we've got Ratbat and the Autobot Cassettes - I don't think we can predict the winner of that one. And we're left with... Rodimus Prime, Wreck Gar, Sky Lynx and Gnaw. How does one make an equitable poll out of them? As a motorised biggie without a humanoid configuration, maybe Sky Lynx should have been in with Trypticon... Martin

Yep. Metroplex is walking away with this one. He has so much play value, and I love the fact that he comes with a small squad of staff as well - Sixgun, Scamper, Slammer... They have helped bag my vote for 'plex this week.
