Yep. It's the only possible choice. Sorry Trypticon, much as I love you... you're not Metroplex.

Nice one, Big Phil.
Eject and Rewind don't look as good as Frenzy and Rumble. Steeljaw looks ok, Ramhorn looks quite fun. But yeah, Ratbat is very cool, and not just because of his comic character. Great expansive wings, nice head sculpt. Never seen any of these in the plastic, so going purely on appearance in the catalogue.
An early lead for RATBAT!

I owned Ratbat and the first five Decepticon Cassettes, and Ratbat was the worst of them. His ears kept flopping down, which was really annoying, since if they'd stayed up he'd have looked more like the comic character. So I can't vote for him.
Gonna vote for Steeljaw, who is clearly Ravage's nemesis.
Also... Autobot lion!

Uncle Bob must have really changed his mind about the Ratbat character after writing his tech-specs, as he rapidly promoted him from rank 6 to rank 10 in the comics following the demise of Straxus. Anyway... Ramhorn and Steeljaw are the strongest (as you'd expect a lion and rhino to be), with strength 8. Ratbat is the weakest, with strength 3. Interestingly, Eject is two points stronger than Rewind. Ratbat and Rewind are the most intelligent (9), followed closely by Steeljaw (8). Ramhorn the least at 4. Ratbat is the... least slow, at 4, followed by Ramhorn at 3 and the other three at 2. None of them are going anywhere very fast! Ramhorn and Steeljaw have endurance 9, Ratbat down at 3. Before Ratbat's rapid rise to power, they all have rank 6 except Ramhorn, who is a warrior and therefore rank 5. None of them are cowards, but Ramhorn and Steeljaw are the bravest with courage 9. Eject has the greatest firepower (5), Steeljaw the least (firepower 1!) with guns that fire 1200 pellets per minute. Pellets of what? Cotton wool? Ratbat and Steeljaw have the greatest skill (9), followed by Eject and Rewind (8) and Ramhorn (4). Steeljaw is really accurate with his cotton wool pellets! Martin

Ratbat is surely the smallest toy to become a decepticon leader.

Great Techspecs rundown there Martin. Yes, some very odd numbers in there. Eject's strength of 6 is a surprise. He's a small cassette-bot! At 6 he's stronger than Jazz or Hound! Ramhorn and Steeljaw I can accept being on the strong-side, but 8s? Strange how Ramhorn, a 'rhino' is faster than Steeljaw, a 'lion' and tracker. If Ravage can manage a 5 in speed, then surely his opposite number, Steeljaw, can manage a 5 as well? And Steeljaw's firepower must be an error. Ratbat's endurance of 3 is the lowest we've seen, isn't it? And his elevation to leader continues to fascinate me. The Decepticons choosing a leader based on merrit rather than power.

Ratbat! Fiction aside, he's a pretty great toy. The "flatness" doesn't harm him so much and the wings fold out to a nice span.
I'm not sure I've ever read Eject's bio until now, and I like it! He could have quite a good dynamic with Rewind, a Frasier / Bulldog kind of thing maybe...

I remember seeing the new Autobot cassettes for the first time in the US catalogue (Christmas '86) and wanting Rewind for some reason. But watching Ratbat's rise to power in the comics was superb! He was basically Straxus's Laserbeak pet, but soon began to show brilliant judgement of his own. From then he became Cybertron leader and then main Decepticon leader on Earth. It was like it wasn't even planned at all because he was just a little spy cassette, but events just naturally played out that way! (I don't like all this retcon stuff that he was a senator originally). I still believe he was the most successful leader the Decepticons had. So Ratbat get's my vote! I remember the joy when I received him from US member Pete back in 1992 along with Perceptor and the Movie stickerbook. It was such a novelty finally getting US toys that were out of our reach for so many years. (Masterpiece Ratbat is even better though.)

Result- squashed cassette rhino. Sadface. #VoteRatbat! Nope Ramhorn would charge at Headstrong leaping as he changed in to tape mode and enters Headstrongs mouth. From there he would vibrate so hard he destroys him. As he emerged from the remains of what had once been Headstrong, Ramhorn launches his 6 laser guided heat seeking missiles at Ratbat who is observing the battle from above. Ratbat dies. Sadface. Ramhorn is invincible provided he can get inserted into enemies. I would be very nervous if I was Blaster.
