Phil has a spreadsheet.
On it are all the catalogues and all the groups on each catalogue.
Against each is a date.
The latest date on the list is 8th May 2020, which is only 2 years away but still is in the next decade.

SOMEONE who posts here once told me the Strike Planes are not good toys!!! -Ralph That's cos they aren't good toys! The hands and landing gear are immediately lost, and neither can be stored well in the other mode, the nose hangs behind the head, and all three are the same toy in different colours! Never been that fond of the jets You bastard. I'm changing my vote in the 'Greatest Fiend' thread... *remembers Starscream's weird laugh in the Combiner Wars cartoon* Hmm, maybe not...

And I've voted STARSCREAM!!! Visually, it's so hard to choose between these original magnificent Strike Planes. And personality-wise it's also really hard! I love all three. Individually AND as a trio. But Starscream is a great character, and a necessary character. You have to look at the Decepticon dynamic as a whole. Starscream and Megatron are so good together. You have to even wonder why Megatron keeps Starscream around all the time... to keep him on his toes? Anyway, the Starscream of 'Enemy Within' jumps out in my mind. Cruel, power-mad. Brilliant character. And a striking Strike Plane.

Definitely Thundercracker. The colour scheme, the sonic boom, the current version in IDW. Always been number one on my list of the original three.

The only true Thundercracker is Action Master Thundercracker.

I mean obviously it's not Starscream because he's a tit.
But the other two... The original Decepticon muscle. The henchmen. Taller and more majestic than the car robots and grittier than the aloof Soundwave. If Megatron needed a job done, Skywarp and Thundercracker would delight in impressing him and delight in destruction doing it.
The mirrored visors, devilish grins. How can you choose between them?

But they're both rubbish non-entities. Right! You're the Greatest Fiend. That's worse than saying they're bad toys. But a lot of people do seem to be voting on their love or not for the characters. If I did that, I'd have voted Windcharger, Ravage, Ratchet and Thundercracker. But I'm voting just on which I think are the best Transformer toys in the absence of supporting fiction. So it's Bumblebee, Buzzsaw, Bluestreak and Skywarp. Martin

Indeed - hence why I voted Huffer over Bumblebee.
And yes, this is another tricky one. It's down to Starscream and Skywarp for me. Starscream because it's actually too difficult to separate the character from the toy, and partially 'cos I did like the colour scheme. Skywarp because he has a great colour scheme. Something else to ponder...

I think I vote mainly mainly visually, with a little early supporting fiction thrown in. I find the catalogues so nostalgic that I find these poles send ne back to those marvelous early days, so I'm voting nostalgically.

Starscream - purely for the colour scheme. It’s a nice and bright one, more normally associated with good guys. You could see them churning out drones in Skywarp and Thundercracker colour schemes but not Starscream.

Darn. Missed the first few votes of these, but loving seeing the old catalogues again.
Like most others its down to Starscream and Skywarp for me. If I was to take into account the cartoon, its clearly Starscream. He's the iconic character that's turned up in countless versions throughout the years.
But. Basing it entirely on the catalogue. If that picture was put in front of me and I had to buy just one based on the picture? Skywarp wins on colour scheme, so he gets my vote.

The characters are rubbish. Not rubbish - under-utilised, but the tons of unrealised story potential in Uncle Bob's tech-specs and Universe entries makes them good characters. Martin

This gave me pause for thought. I'm sure this has been done elsewhere, but I took a photo of the screen when Bob Budianski put up his original hand-written Tech Spec table at TFN last year, and combined with the might of Phil's BBCode tablising macro we can see that conclusively, Skywarp has Starcream's original tech specs: | Str | Int | Spd | End | Rnk | Cou | Fir | Ski | Tot | Starscream (BB original) | 7 | 9 | 10 | 7 | 9 | 9 | 8 | 8 | 67 | Skywarp (Box Tech Spec) | 7 | 9 | 10 | 7 | 9 | 9 | 8 | 8 | 67 | Skywarp (BB original) | 7 | 4 | 9 | 7 | 5 | 8 | 7 | 7 | 54 | Thundercracker (Box Tech Spec) | 7 | 4 | 9 | 7 | 5 | 8 | 7 | 7 | 54 | Thundercracker (BB original) | 7 | 7 | 9 | 7 | 5 | 5 | 8 | 7 | 55 | Starscream (Box Tech Spec) | 7 | 7 | 9 | 7 | 5 | 8 | 7 | 7 | 57 |
So, does that mean that Starscream was originally intended to be the sinister black and purple?
