Throughout the Cartoon 'bots suffered worse injury, worse damage, worse hits that the one Prowl received in The Movie, and they've jumped right back up. So he burped out some gas, BIG DEAL. The only one who probably almost certainly died was poor Ironhide, who we can be fairly sure was blasted by Megatron at pointblank range.

It has to be said that was always my view, which is why at the time it didn't occur to me that these characters were dying. It's only subsequently learning that was the intention that it suddenly felt odd. What? Die? But they get shot up every week in the TV series?

Prowl was on fire blown up from the inside out. He was pretty much a pair of legs by the time he fell to the floor.
His remains were also on the Autobot tomb thingy that flew into a sun when it went nova. If Huffer couldn't survive that then I'm sure Prowl couldn't.
His toy was also not seen in the shops after this.
