Solo is for me the worst theatrical Star Wars film by a countey mile as I found it to be so crushingly dull and boring. Other films have their issues but none of them bored me as much as this pish. The only sparks of life were provided by Evil Jarvis and Maul's hilarious (and ludicrous) cameo.
Also: young Lando was pish. That was not Lando. That was some other dude with his name.
The robot was shite as well and gtf with the 'twist' that the Falcon gets its brain. **** off with that kind of *********!
The single most excruciating points in any SW film occur when it stops to 'explain' the Imperial March tune and Han Solo's name. **** off. No-one spent 40 years screaming into the void: "I MUST KNOW WHAT HAN SOLO'S NAME MEANS!"
Also: what was the story? No ******* story!
Utter shite.

Inside Po the Teletubby is Pui Fan Lee, of Chris & Pui on Cbeebies fame. I am underwhelmed by your Teletubbies fact. Who are Chris & Pui? -Ralph They are television presenters for younger children, as Shockprowl will be aware having had younger children.

Fuck you, J.J. Abrams, you fucking twat. What are you going to copy and remake next? You unimaginative shit-bag. Are you aware that he is making Episode IX? -Ralph I am, which is why I'm out. I'll watch it out of morbid curiosity when it comes on the telly.

Lots to address -
Ep.VII gets worse with every viewing, although I still think Kylo is great given that he's not just a bad guy, there's conflict.
Conversely Ep.VIII gets better with every viewing as long as you ignore the humour (I won't repeat my usual rant on Disney properties and humour again) casino scenes (which actually take up surprisingly little time of the film) and the idea of the main plot.
Kylo punching himself in his wound. It's a mind over matter thing, telling yourself it hurts, but that you can get past it, a bit like walking it off when you stub your toe. Or heightening the pain temporarily in a controlled manner, so that when the unavoidable pain is there it doesn't seem so bad.
Solo's main problem is that it decides to retcon bloody everything. A nod here and there would have been fine, but everything ever said about Han's past in the films is here. Lucas was great at 3 things... 1 - borrowing from the films and serials he grew up loving, 2 - visualising a universe and 3- Giving us enough hints as to previous events that it builds a character, but doesn't actually tell us what happened which is not easy and yet he did it brilliantly, thus adding mystery and a space for our own imaginations to run wild. Oh, and like Ralph I abhor that robot, to the point that I almost find it offensive in it's portrayal of a stereotype. It also needed way more army scenes. in fact, that should have been the entire film, ending with him and Chewie coming together setting up a sequel of a future adventure.
Rogue One is bloody great, apart from the octopus.
I fear we may have strayed from just Ep.VII now.

Okay, it's weird to use George Lucas as a positive example, but I honestly think the current generation of fandom simply does not understand storytelling, and sometimes even humor, itself. This is far from a star wars issue, as I see this everywhere now. You can't imply anything about a character with subtext, because kids and young adults throw a holy fit "if it wasn't shown on screen, it never happened!" Or that it's a bait and switch or pandering or whatever they wanna claim. And if you mention anything, they then demand said event is shown at some point. And so many jokes and valid bits of worldbuilding are damaged with that attitude. Our heroes experiencing a really improbable event, and one of them proclaims some version of "Oh no, not again," or "I hate when this happens" is not only the funniest damned thing, but is a bit of light on that character. And never showing that happening to them before is completely valid, because the circumstances the viewer/reader comes up with will usually be far better than what the writers would. Just like not showing the monster is usually scarier than showing it. Then there's this new thing where everything absolutely must be created out of a complete vacuum. If any artist were "caught" using reference material, then they are accused of copying. How dare you look at how a sword is drawn, or how a body looks at an unfamiliar angle. If any writer were to use tropes as tools to tell a story, or to show they were inspired by something else, then they're talentless or are plagiarists. It's all incredibly disheartening.

It just all so disappointing. I do quite like Kylo, Rey, Finn and Poe though and if nothing else, I did enjoy the fight in the snowy woods. Hey Shockers - what did you think of the Rathtar scene?

I don't know what 'Rathtar' is... And yes, some of the characters were ok, I liked Poe and Finn, less convinced by Rey second viewing.

I don't know what 'Rathtar' is... They're the weird tentacle creatures Han and Chewie were transporting.

I don't rate JJ Abrams at all; to me he's a talented film maker in terms of the surface detail but his movies are disjointed and lacking in depth. Very much like Michael Bay (though in some ways Bay edges it for me as he lacks pretense).
What makes TFA work for me are the characters (including Rey, she's really grown on me!), though they are better served by TLJ - I felt like Rian Johnson saw the unrealised potential in Poe especially, TLJ in many ways salvaged TFA for me. And I do like the Falcon chase on Jakku.
I also disliked the Rathtar scene overall, but it did serve one purpose, sort of, which was the hint at Rey's powers with the "luck" dialogue. Even that was clumsy though, and I wasn't even aware until after seeing the film that Rey being strong in the Force was supposed to be a sort of twist.

I should say, I think the actress playing Rey (forgive me I can't remember her name), is exceptional, it's the character that just... doesn't work for me.

Oh of course.
I think the reason why the character doesn't work me is the fact that Rey is where the plot is just A New Hope all over again. Whereas Poe and especially Finn do come across as 'new characters'.

Rey doesn't have the naive innocence that was so appealing in Luke in Eps IV and V. She's moody and frowny. And now Luke's moody and frowny too. Yoda wasn't moody and frowny in Ep V.
