The other thing that Young Indiana Jones lacked - at least in the episodes I saw - was any sense of two-fisted pulp adventuring. Indiana Jones is a two-fisted pulp adventurer who punches evil-doers, wins through but somehow always end up slightly behind the curve. Removing that element gutted what little there is in the character that wasn't brought there by Ford.

Thats an odd one, as much as I love Disney, the idea of them (or anyone else) holding a monopoly doesnt appeal, on the other hand aside from Star Wars and Indiana Jones Lucas Film doesnt have that much else does it? ILM - don't underestimate how important a consideration that might have been in the acquisition. Although a lot of the media coverage, and most of the Internet , is focusing on the "Now Disney owns Star Wars" this acquisition also gives them a sizeable chunk of the special effects ironmongery of Hollywood. That has to factor into what the future looks like. Karl

ILM reunited with Pixar means Disney can pretty much do anything they want in house now.

Frankly, if this turns out to be set after Return of the Jedi and Admiral Ackbar isn't in it, I will throw shit about. Equally, if he is in it and is a CG abomination rather than a man in a suit I will throw shit about.

Just as long as R2 and 3PO are in it. They are the central characters, after all.
Sadly, I suspect that Kenny Baker won't be able to play R2. He hasn't looked in very good physical shape the last few years.

I say leave Ackbar out and give him a trilogy to himself.

Nay. No need for overkill. He is the perfect icing on the cake but would not be a good cake all by himself.

But but but Lawrence Kasdan wrote the screen play for Empire Strikes Back... This has blown my freaking mind at how good this could turn out if he returns to that sort of form.
Now all we need is Quentin Tarantino to direct it and I may have some optimism restored.

If this story is true then it pleases me.
Mind you, just because they hire him doesn't mean that he will do the final draft or guarantee how much of his draft remains in the finished product.

Lucas asked Kasdan to come back when he was writing Phantom Menace, but he declined the offer. That may suggest he has no interest in writing any more Star Wars, but I get the impression Kasdan was unhappy with how parts of Jedi turned out and that (I'm guessing) put him off. With Lucas less involved this time around I could see him coming back.
But yeah, this could also be nothing more than wishful thinking.

This new is... Gah! I don't know. My opinion of Abrahms work tends to depend on who he works with. If he brings in the Lost guys my interest plummets, Star Trek I didn't mind but wouldn't be overly excited. But Fringe has been excellent. As a director I dont mind him. The best bet would be if he was just directing to someone else's script, but I don't think he's ever worked that way before, he's always exec producer and involved in scripts to some extent.
On the plus side for those who didn't like his Star Trek, I think he'll be too busy now to do a third.

Easy pass for me, but then considering how much he dicks around it won't be out until 2020 anyway.

Well I thought Sam Mendes was a dreadful choice for Bond and Skyfall was pretty decent (for me, anyway) so hope springs eternal. At least Lindelhof and Orci & Kurtzman are nowhere bear this

I'd forgotten they already had a decent writer on board as well as exec producers so I'm staying hopeful.

I'm hopeful to. I like much of Abrams work, but always seem to have some issue with his films, such as too much daft humour in Stat Trek ( Kirk would never slap Spock on the shoulder). But he's a life long Star Wars fan, so that's good.
Need some cast news now. Luke has to be in it for me.
