It zaps his energy though, his Techspecs say, "these powers use up tremendous amounts of energy". Which to me implies he can only use his magnetic powers for short periods before his energy is drained. Unfortunately.

Bob Budiansky took a lot of superhero powers for the 1984 cast - Windcharger's magnetism, Trailbreaker's force-fields, Soundwave's mind-reading, etc. But he was careful to give them weaknesses to limit their omnipotence. Overuse of Windcharger's powers leads him to burn himself out, while Trailbreaker's force-fields are hugely fuel-consumptive.

Huh why is it rounded???

Not a clue, it's bugged me for years. Does that insinuate the front of his truck is round too?
Did that design ever get used outside of TFU and the model sheets?
Generations (book) has the square version of the model sheet.

I don't mind the animation head but I do prefer the look of the I WILL KILL YOU toy head.

Nostalgia prefers pretty much all the toy heads, but which is objectively better?
Agh, I'll split the vote and go 'animation'. It emotes and Huffer did more with that face than he ever did with toy. I think the Ladybird book was his and Gears' only real appearances with the toy heads?

I usually side with the toys, because in that huge gap between the cartoon going odd the air, and the DVDs making it accessible again, the toys actually being there made for a much bigger impact (which makes me wonder why so many people are so loyal to the visuals of something they likely hadn't seen in 20 years and likely obly faintly remembered when the toys and their pictures are right there) But Huffer is one of the few where the animation model wins out. He's also one of the few where you can see how they got the new design out of the original.

I voted toy, also for the "I WILL KILL YOU" look.
Still puzzled over the logic behind the curved bonnet in the Universe picture. Could there have been a reference pic which makes the hood look round? It's such an odd change given we all know what shape trucks are.

The curved hood/bonnet happened after he gave Hoist a lift. He was far too big to fit and completely warped it.

I surprise myself by not going immediately for the toy head. There is, as other people have said, something about the animation model. Or maybe it's just that I never had the toy, and his toy design didn't feature as prominently as Bumblebee, Brawn or Windcharger's did in other media. Having Arrival from Cybertron on VHS certainly means I got used to his animation face more than anything else - he had no Enemy Within for me to furtively re-read under the blankets at night to counter it... But Huffer is one of the few where the animation model wins out. He's also one of the few where you can see how they got the new design out of the original. You know, I've literally only just this moment realised why he has that odd domino mask - it's the same design as his toy mode eyes, they just put actual eyes on it. I don't know how I couldn't see that before...

I have gone for the toy head because I (well, my sister originally, actually) had Huffer as one of our earliest toys, and I've still got him, so there's a lot of nostalgia there. I also remember him in the Ladybird books. It was a year or two later when I got _the_ Huffer comic - 'The Next Best Thing to Being There' - the Bomber Bill story. If I'd got that at the time it came out, and the toy later, I'd feel more affection for the animation model. TFWiki copy-and-paste: Martin

To this day, every time I see the panel of him arguing with Ironhide, I still see Huffer with a huge shoulder mounted missile launcher!

Yes - though why Prime is waving it like that, I don't know. I also spot a new face design for Sunstreaker in the background.

It's not a new face design - he's just trying as hard as he can to not be involved in the argument, so he's got his face buried in a book. Buried really, really deep.
And if this isn't an appropriate 5,000th post, I don't know what is.

I agree with others. I'm usually toy all the way, but this is hard because the toy face just doesn't suit his character.

It suits his character in the universe where everyone got tired of his constant whining, so Ratchet welded a plate over his mouth.

And then Huffer got his revenge by chopping off Ratchet's face completely and drawing a crude one on the blank slate with a black marker pen. Then changing his body into... whatever the toy is!

Hmm. This one us pretty much the same. Just with or without the mask.
Also, you seem to have shown Windcharger results again.
