Mrs M and I are very pleased to announce that we were joined by Naomi Rachel Merrifield yesterday at 1327, weighing in at a much lighter than expected 7lbs 15. Mrs M and Naomi are doing well but both still being monitored in hospital now. Mrs M as she had a c-sec and Naomi because her blood sugar levels keep dipping and they want to get those stabilised. I am home now but was able to stay with them until almost midnight last night. Hopefully they will be home by the end of the weekend. Otherwise all is well. She is a calm baby (so far!) but can definitely turn up the volume when she wants to.

Many congratulations to you. :-) And yes, blood sugar was something they were worried about with the Scraplet also, which is another of the reasons they kept them in. It picks up after feeding though, so they’ll be okay.
I will have to warm you that the calm stage does not last. I thought that the Scraplet was doing well when he had to have multiple blood tests and a cannula inserted on his first night, as he cried for a bit whilst it was being done but then immediately dropped back to sleep. Now he screams the house down when I have the temerity to dare to remove his nappy...

Word of warning - my first night with the Scraplet went nice and smoothly, which was reassuring since I had him on my own so that Jo was able to take a night to herself to recover. Subsequent nights... were less so. We've also just discovered cluster feeding at night - wherein he eats lots of small meals in quick succession. So be aware...

It's sooooo hard at first, when they're tiny. But, it's easier the bigger they get. Kinda.

Oh yeah - didn't mention that. I mean, we still call him the Scraplet, of course. But once registry offices are opened again, he will officially be Haleth Kanan.

I am looking forward to comparing Naomi to Scorponok and Fort Max.
Today... I resisted a splendid looking Cyberverse Repugnus in favour of some Tommee Tippee baby bottles. It has started.

Fuck knows. When it's safe. Whenever that'll be. At least in Scotland I know they're not going to open them before it's safe...

Oh yeah - didn't mention that. I mean, we still call him the Scraplet, of course. But once registry offices are opened again, he will officially be Haleth Kanan. That's not a name I know. Does it have a special meaning or origin? Haleth is from the Old English, meaning "warrior". It also appears in Tolkien's The Silmarillion, as the leader of one of the first groups of Men to enter the West. The son of Helm Hammerhand of Rohan was named after her, much later. And outside of the books, it's the name given to that blonde-haired boy in The Two Towers who's put on a horse with his sister at the start of the film, to ride to Edoras and safety. Kanan has many meanings, depending on spelling and culture. In Hindi however it means "Forest". It's also the name of one of the main characters from Star Wars Rebels. We basically wanted names to represent the weird mix of cultures that this poor bugger is, as well as reflecting our geek heritage, whilst not being *too* blatant about it. (Hence why my initial suggestion of "Thorin Magnus" was nixed.)
