1. John Wick: Chapter 4 2. The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan 3. Babylon 4. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 35. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania 6. M3gan 7. Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves 8. Scream VI 9. Shazam! Fury of the Gods 10. Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (TV movie) 11. Plane 12. Renfield 13. The Enforcer 14. 65 OK, as someone who liked Rocket Raccoon in the 1980s, which is more than I can say for many other characters that the MCU has adapted for screen, this film leaves me with a _lot_ to process.
I think it warrants a second viewing to properly absorb.
It certainly provoked an emotional reaction in me, and probably exactly the one intended by the film's makers. Martin Feels like this might be a bit spoilery a review, Martin? Maybe all stuff that's alluded to in the trailer but having not seen the trailer it's making me think about possible plot lines, which I wasn't doing before coming on this review. I'm not worried, as I'll be waiting for Disney+ but maybe others will be?

having not seen the trailer it's making me think about possible plot lines, which I wasn't doing before I can't see how you could possibly light upon the actual plot of the film that way, but will let others be the judge of that after they've seen it, so I've spoiler-tagged my comments for now. Done more than a week's worth of hours in work by Friday lunchtime, so knocked off and went to the cinema. Didn't feel like watching Guardians 3 or Dungeons & Dragons for a second time. No interest in seeing Fast & Furious even once. But I was in the mood to see John Wick 4 for a third time while it was still on the big screen, and I had no regrets. Still slack-jawed during many of its action sequences. Can't get over the one inside that building near the end. Amazing.

I wasn't massively keen on Guardians 1 and thought Guardians 2 was dreadful but did enjoy Guardians 3 a lot. A decent villain and a better balance of story with 'characters being wacky'. I was pleasantly surprised.

1. Tenet: 2. Glass Onion: I enjoyed this. It is an interestingly subversive take on whodunits, with a playful relationship to the tropes of the genre. I also enjoyed the complete disrespect given to lightly-filed down serial numbered versions of famous real rich people demonstrated. A rare example where carving out a supporting character from one film has resulted in an enjoyable sequel. Daniel Craig also looks like he is having fun, which is lovely to see. 3. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. 4. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania:- Oh. Yes. So, exactly what I expected from the trailer. A decision was taken in colour-grading this film which I cannot in good conscience support. This could have been a vibrant, colourful fantasy action-adventure movie. Instead they rendered it into visual sludge, like large parts of the final reel of the last Avengers movie. They could have done this as a visual wonderland, filled with vibrant colours and kirby-esque marvels. But they chose not to. It also felt a lot more leaden than the previous two Ant-Man films, with a very non-descript villain. Just another bloke with an army of soldiers for the heroes/their allies to kill. And if the mid-credits scene was supposed to be menacing and awe-inspiring...I probably shouldn't have been snorting with derision at the execution of it. I did enjoy the first twenty-minutes or so, and I think I might have enjoyed a film that built on that in some way. But mostly for me this is a swing and a miss. Possibly my least favourite non-Avengers movie that Marvel has done.

I do think studios that create CG worlds need to screen-test their colour choices across a wide audience and listen to the feedback from groups who don't see the resultant colours the ways the creators do. To me, the CG scenes in Endgame, Quantumania and the like are vibrant and colourful, but the films need to be made for all.

Having accumulated more than three days' worth of flexi credit in recent weeks, I have booked several afternoons off to see various films when they come out: Rise of the Beasts, The Flash, Indiana Jones, Mission: Impossible and Oppenheimer. Nice to have treats dotted around in the work diary to look forward to.

1. Avatar The Way of Water
2. Puss in Boots : Whatever this ones called.
3. Antman 3:
4. 65
5. The Whale
6. RRR
7. John Wick Chapter 4
8. Shazam 2
9. Creed 3
11. Dungeons and dragons
12. Super Mario Bros
13. Guardians Vol 3 - brilliant. Couldnt imagine a better Marvel film this year.
14. Fast X - somehow bigger than ever but also managing to take a step back (mostly) from going in to space.
15. Spider-Man Across the Spiderverse - Ah I spoke too soon, Spiderverse is not just the best Marvel film this year, I think its beating John Wick 4 too.

The Enforcer 18. 65 'The Flash' comes too soon after 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' and 'Multiverse of Madness' not to feel like it's trying to copy them, and it suffers in comparison to 'No Way Home' on a number of key points, most notably the likeability of the lead characters and the amount of important stuff not given away by the trailers. I was hoping 'The Flash' would have some big surprises like 'No Way Home's third-act three-Spider-Mans team-up, but it didn't.
There was also some dodgy CGI, including unrealistic falling babies and unconvincing recreations of past DC actors.
But I liked the surprise ending, which I imagine will infuriate many. It makes me want to re-watch a certain film, just for giggles. Martin

Not a bad summary there Martin. Very mixed bag. No sense of surprise in Kara being held rather than Kal as we've seen her in trailers and posters.
CGI very dodgy. Fights seem out of a computer game not a film.
Babies in peril felt unnecessary.
I'd have preferred more of a build and confrontation of Barry 2 as the main villain. We had one reminder of it and it was over by the time he'd finished his sentence.
Giant spider (were there polar bears too?) and the end had me in stitches however so worth the price of admission.

I saw Flash myself today. I wasn't sure whether to bother because I'd pretty much given up on the big, main DC films and I was already finding the multiverse idea stale in watching No Way Home, having already been done in Into the Spider-Verse and Arrowverse. But I was glad I did because I actually found it not only the best DC (shared universe film) but also the best multiverse-themed film. Ooh, except perhaps for Across the Spider-Verse. Marvel films quite often give me fanboy moments - those scenes which give me a big grin while I squee inside - but it's rare for a DC film. There was a sequence that had me grinning a great deal. I didn't like the babies scene.
I hadn't seen the trailer, so didn't have anything given away myself, with the exception of common-knowledge Supergirl. Superman being held, I did wonder if it was actually going to be Kara or if there was going to be a Red Son element.
Martin, that ending put me in mind of a certain Tim Burton film - though it did give another fanboy moment.

The Enforcer 19. 65 'Dial of Destiny' probably ranks as my third favourite in the series, some considerable distance behind 'Last Crusade' and 'Raiders'. Mads Mikkelsen is a top baddie. The de-ageing of Harrison Ford in the flashback scenes is so good, I wish they'd just set the whole film during the war, like Nick Fury in 'Captain Marvel'. The plot was... OK. Fairly formulaic and predictable for Indiana Jones. But executed well enough. Martin

Not been fit enough for a cinema visit for a couple of months but made it out for the first film in a new series, HELENA SHAW AND THE DIAL OF DESTINY. Apparently, there is also an Indiana Jones film out. Apparently.
I am one of the few who liked Indy IV but this...was shite.
