But it didn't have a Tripods comic strip. Beeb wins.

Anyone who miss the FCBD free copy of the comic in May - Skybound are selling the same comic 5 days later with 5 covers. So could this mean they are going to reduce the number of free copies to make people get the pay for one?

I would religiously sit and watch it every Saturday morning as a kid, and in my teenage years, my mates and I would scour the second-hand shops trying to find old copies of the VHS's.

I'm still in two minds about this series. In some ways, it's really good stuff, in particular some great depictions of aliens on an alien planet. But at other times, especially fight scenes, it's like something a child would write.

I've enjoyed it, but the art has elevated it beyond the actual story. While it's nice to have gotten a sort of back to basics approach, something more is needed. {Spoiler}Also the whole oh look how deadly a combiner is, thanks but Dreamwave did that and so did IDW. While I know it's meant to be its own thing and i don't know if DWJ read any of the previous iterations, but someone should have said - been there, done that.

I would agree with the comments above. The art is great, there are a lot of good character beats (esp Prime) and I've enjoyed a back to basics style of story after the IDW years. However hopefully we get some fresher ideas from now on, rather than just lots of fighting every issue.

Yeah, I think I'm dropping to trades now. In the battle between space in my flat and how much this is doing for me, the comic is losing this one.

I'll agree (because I've been saying this for some time now) that it's the art that really makes this one. Thinking back on it, I think one of the failures of the IDW 2.0 Transformers universe was that it didn't do enough to distinguish itself visually from IDW 1.0. Sure, they started with new artists, but it still wasn't quite enough. This is very much its own thing, and it's been nice to see. But... I was initially going to complain had they actually killed off Prime after only six issues - or at least taken him out of action for some time. But then I remembered that he was out of action by issue 5 of the original Marvel US run, so it's nothing new there. (It just feels different for UK readers since we had all the UK strips before that all happened.)
But yes, as I've said before, it also needs to show us something new story wise. References to the '86 Movie are just getting tiresome now, in whatever media, so the deathbed scene in this issue was not welcome. But hopefully, hopefully they've got it out of their systems now and can forge on and make something new.
What I am hoping for is a very interesting dynamic with the human characters - both Carly and Spike suffered badly thanks to their Autobot allies this issue, so that could go in interesting directions. I'm really hoping it does...

A different artist for #7. Similar, though I prefer the new guy. Spoiler Ah, Cybertron! Ooh, new characters. Huffer, unusual! Damn, they're dead already. Ooh, showing off a little-seen, ruthless, violent side to Soundwave. Starscream? Interesting.

Same, I think he's just a little better.
Pleased with what they did with this issue, and I don't see an easy return to a standard G1 style setting anytime soon, which was always the fear with this book.

Yeah, don't mind the new guy - not sure who I prefer yet, though. His work's a little more clean, but it lacks the kinetic madness of DWJ's work. We'll see. I'm still interested enough to see where this is going to end up, although we are technically still in Marvel territory at this point, especially Marvel UK territory, with Soundwave now leading the Megatron-less Decepticons in exile. It's the Cybertron-based stuff that could make this interesting. We'll see.
As before, I don't mind them killing off characters to up the stakes a little, but that was a *lot* of characters in one issue - although I'd not be surprised if it turned out both Kup and Starscream had survived. I guess we'll see how the story plays out and how it all impacts things...

FCBD issue is out - solid little affair. {Spoiler}Void Rivals is very much the Sunbow Season 3 Transformers I think, which is nice.
Ryan Ottley art on the TF story is grand.
Duke, I liked, which is good as the last issue of Duke really shat the bed with Hawk going full moron and assuming all the robots are evil, when given the surveillance he clearly had, would have shown Prime and co defending the humans.

Wait - there's going to be a non-free version of the FCBD comic available? So I don't necessarily need to panic about not being able to make it out yesterday, except for for completeness' sake..?

So it's all about the covers then. There are those who would have wanted multiple covers on the FCBD issue so instead there's a paid version the week after. Madness. And yes I realise there was scarcity too and those stores that don't even do FCBD (I'm looking at you *local shop*). The one I did go to was asking for a £5 spend to unlock three free issues (you could take just one). I ended up spending £75.
