FCBD isn't free to run. Retailers have to buy the comics and there's quite a large minimum. That's without any additional marketing costs the retailer decides to make. That's why I don't do FCBD in my shop; it's too expensive. For those retailers that do participate, they have to recoup the costs, in the way that they see fit, to make it worthwhile.
In this case, I don't think it's about collecting variant covers. I haven't read the special yet, but as it's released so soon after FCBD (in contrast to Marvel's retail edition, which isn't out until July), I assume there's something relevant to upcoming stories.

Picked up the FCBD issue online and I have to say: I enjoyed this. I think I'd be much more onboard with the shared universe if they all happened in the same book!

Got issue 8 earlier this week. Terrific issue, one of the best so far. Brings in some interesting ideas and concepts, so while it is still G1 inspired it has some unique things going on too. Really enjoyed it.

I am encouraging one of our local Librarians to order in the new trade.
I glanced through a couple issues in FP today. Seemed fine, nice art but a bit light on content. Will see how it reads in collected form.

I've not really looked at any Skybound discourse, but glad to see that I wasn't alone in enjoying the fact that the series took the meme of "Sunbow Optimus is pure Dad Energy" and made it literal.
Also the fact that a guy called "Sparkplug" essentially plugged Prime's Spark.

I've made a huge mistake.
I just bought the TPB in London after receiving an Amazon email that it's been delayed again, only to realise that I can't cancel the Amazon pre-order as it's in a multi-item promotion.

There's actually nothing wrong with either: the visual storytelling is clear and energetic and the story is solidly put togeter. It just wasn't for me. -Ralph |

My son has gone off it thanks to the number of robot deaths. Yes, they can be fixed with enough energon but I guess the way DWJ is relishing in squishing all our faves just got to him. He has returned to the Sunbow DVDs.

Hasbro roadmap - no Skybound after 2025 but Viz media for 2025. So are they still working a deal or just did 2 yr one after the IDW reboot one.

Damn.
I could never really get into the IDW comics.
Skybound's Transformers and Void Rivals are the only two I've really been enjoying that feel like a proper G1-ish storyline.
I mean, we haven't even had the Dinobots yet!

Is it this one? Publishing isn't mentioned after 2025, though I expect it's due to contract negotiation rather than the end of the line. That said, I was sad to hear that Daniel Warren Johnson will be leaving the Skybound series after issue 24 (reported on ScreenRant). He's doing a great job. Also, what's with the Earthspark Season 2A-2D. Is it bad luck to have a third season? |

There could be that Skybound haven't stated plans to Hasbro but they should have got the rights for more than 2 years - with it also being around time the writer states he finished.
