I'm bracing myself for that. I was intrigued as to what else I might have seen Arthur Rigby in so looking at his filmography I discovered he bows out soon.
I hope he lasts longer than handlebar moustache man. His references to women seem dated even for 1960.

Season 9 and 1962. It's fascinating watching the evolution of this series. I see now we have much more seamless integration of location and studio filming. No longer overdubbed silent outdoor film like the wedding and the Paris stuff, now it's proper location recording. And the studio segments have been Vidfired. The longer episodes give the story time to breathe too, this feels much more modern. You can tell this is primetime drama, Doctor Who is a year away yet and didn't get the production standards this has now until stories like The War Machines.
Wait a minute! Has handlebar moustache man been promoted to be Andy's sidekick? Without the tash? How did he manage that?! I do wish there was a good guide book to this series. I need cast lists and character guides.

Time Jump!
Dixon now explodes into COLOUR in the most gripping episode yet! 'Waste Land' is a sensational slice of telly (very much ahead of its time) and feels like it was made in 2024, not 1970.
More of this show needs to be found!!!

The Green Wedding. I love the slow build in this. The inevitability of the confrontation. You know there's trouble coming and then when you find the wedding reception is shot out of the studio, you know it's going to kick off. But there's George, 66 years old at this point, right in the thick of it.
There's a heck of a cast in this too. Not just the wedding guests but there are loads of police with speaking parts. I clocked Phyllida Law straight away, she looks so like Emma Thompson at that age. Major family resemblance.

No! Robert Holmes wrote an episode of this but it's one of the lost ones! Same for David Fisher.

It's a shame there weren't fans recording the audio off their telly as we could have had recons! Makes you appreciate more how lucky Doctor Who fans are.

No! Robert Holmes wrote an episode of this but it's one of the lost ones! Same for David Fisher. Most of what Robert Holmes wrote for telly not only doesn't exist, but there's a lack of documentation such as scripts. It's partly why he isn't that well known as a great UK telly writer, outwith of Doctor Who fandom. -Ralph

I've come to the conclusion that the fact Arthur Rigby looks down all the time while delivering his lines isn't an affectation of his character, it's because he's reading his lines off the clipboard he keeps shuffling on his desk.

This is why there needs to be a guide to this series. How did that story end? I mean I know he isn't dead because he's in pretty much every episode of the series, but did the thieves get their comeuppance? We need to know!

It makes me wonder how much British TV from the 50s still exists. Or I suppose pre-Doctor Who is how I'd see it. Quatermass, Pathfinders, these Dixons. What else is there to watch?
