No. I think I'm two off. I'm being held up by Mrs P who has decided she wants to watch these as well, but keeps buggering off and isn't in at the allotted Dixon watching time of Saturday lunchtime. I will get there this Bank Holiday weekend.

The Team. Woah. That was a tonal shift and no mistake. The series is definitely changing there. I suppose by this point it's having to compete with Z-Cars. I feel genuinely angered by the end of that. Quite brilliant, but so dark.
I see now too that having jumped forward three years to 1967, George has become the desk sergeant and replaced Flint. Presumably because Jack Warner needed a less active part.

Yes, absolutely. I'd buy that in a heartbeat. I'm quite surprised given the huge volume of archive TV that has come out on disc over the years that this hasn't happened. There are three DVDs of the colour Dixon episodes, but how has there never been a decent book?

'Sounds' is another gripping and clever episode.
There might only be 33 episodes surviving from 432 but what we have left is a genuinely brilliant show so far and unfairly forgotten.

Coincidence... I'm watching Wasteland at the moment. So this was broadcast two months before Terror of the Autons. It's amazing how the shift to colour coincides with a change in tone very similar to the tonal change in Doctor Who between War Games and Spearhead. This is also another example of a TV show usually shot multicam in studio having an episode entirely on location on film. The paralells are fascinating!

It is very noticeable how the series is following the seventies trend for serious social drama, it's very different to the soapy comedy and stereotypes of the 50s episodes. You could see that coming in The Team.

Pat Gorman was in that one! Phil will be pleased.
This jaunty seventies ending theme doesn't really fit the tone.

Just amazing. The jump cut to Dixon reaching into the police car to switch off the radio report but too late to stop the cop's wife hearing it.
It's really stuck in my mind since I saw it.

Yes, not least because you as a viewer are straining to hear it as much as the police so when George does that you feel the guilt of not thinking about his wife yourself. He may be almost a bit part in his own series at this point but he's still the guardian looking out for everyone else.

Second colour episode. Shame the nature of the missing episodes means by coincidence this one is pretty much the same episode as the last one. I was hoping for some studio in this one, is George now solely on film? I can't tell if the indoor bits are supposed to be in Dock Green police station or some temporary office next to the wasteland they now seem to be confined to working in. The offices look as knackered as the gasworks. Laudie's come a long way from the comedy handlebar moustache.

Time jump! The guy in Geneva from The Tenth Planet and Travis 1 from Blake's 7 as villains!!! -Ralph I've reached this episode tonight. This is just giving me urges to watch Blake's 7, but you didn't say this episode features Mrs McClusky! In her scanties! Surely this is more than George will be able to cope with.
