It's a brilliant book, and an essential referance tome when writing the blog. I cried when I read the story of returned episodes being torched in 1980! Yes, there are a lot of things that make one go "Gah! no!". Very absorbing and should put paid to some of the myths that have been floating around over the years too. (It has also convinced me that the chances of us ever seeing anything else of Dalek's Masterplan are as close to zero as makes no odds sadly.). Karl Given that they were close to zero anyway and that we somehow have 3 episodes surviving...... *THEN* we have the mystery of what happened to the prints the Australian censors took exception to. Phil has watched Ice Warriors 1 for the blog tonight. Yes I am 3 weeks ahead again. IT DROVE ME UP THE WALL! Never have I been so annoyed by an episode of DW! Well I've been mpore annoyed, yes, but that was by stuff like Last of the Timelords which was so poor it was untrue. You could drive a double decker bus through the holes in scientific accuracy in this episode. Deary me.

I started reading Peter Purves' autobiography yesterday. I bought it at The Works a few months ago and was keen to start reading it as I was watching his episodes at the time, but put it off until he'd left in case of spoilers, having not experienced many of his stories.

I can't read the writing. It's too small.

I think this is absolutely brilliant, though I do wish it was either entirely a spoof or entirely straight rather than half and half.

I know that, but it's only half spoof. There's lots of 'serious' info in there too, like ep information/facts (not the fake fact bits).

The Peter Newman one is good. And the Hartnell wigs is superb.

They're doing a limited print run. If you want a copy pm me for the email address: I saw details on a closed forum so don't think it's a good idea to publically reproduce the details here.

There's an error in the back concerning the fate of the ABC's Underwater Menace episodes: the text from another column is duplicated by accident.
It is a stonking book though.

Hah! Turned out Richard hadn't spotted the error till I pointed it out. He says the ABC has forms (which he hasn't seen) for the story indicating they were destroyed or returned to the BBC.

Bidmead has recently tweeted that he had been interviewed by Richard Marson for a book about JNT: Just finished being interviewed by a delightful chap, Richard Marson, for his upcoming book about John Nathan Turner. I got coffee & cake. Marson is the former Blue Peter and IIRC Former DWM editor....

A book about JNT? Could make for interesting reading. Hopefully it will continue his overdue rehabilitation - which has still not really made up for the unfair pillorying he got from fandom at one point.

Indeed not.
The only problem is with him passed on, and Gary Downie also departed there's nothing to stop the book being a hatchet job, or just peddling the same crap we already have about him.

It's such a crying shame he passed away before the DVD's had the budget for the more extensive extra features. It's so annoying that so much of 80's WHO is always slated, as is JNT, and he would have brought such valuable insight to the features. Remember, he worked on more DW episodes than anyone else (going back to when he was a runner on The Space Pirates), to this day. -Ralph
