Season one is patchy, but it starts strong and contains some of the best episodes of the entire show. I prefer it to season 7.
Season two always seemed underrated to me. I love that opening 3-episode arc.

The last season is blighted by Vic Fontaine, who I cannot stand.

Yes, Vic Fontaine is...annoying, but I'm with Jim season 1 is patchy, and S2 is better than it's rep, but everything changes when Avery Brooks gets his skinhead and goes from Ben Sisko to The Sisko.

Is there a place on the interweb that tells you which photos are used in which TOS title sequence?

I can see where you're coming from but no.
Klingon arc had got old by Redemption which introduces the Duras sisters which are rubbish.... though not as bad as Sela in Redemption II. The only good bits of Redemption II are Data commanding the Starship.
Darmok is an all time great.
Ensign Ro doesn't impress me me, Silicon Avatar is OK.
Sarek to Best of Both Worlds II? Sarek and both BOBW are superb and neither episode in between is that bad.
Deja Q just started! Best Q episode.

Have to side with Phil on this, that's about as solid a 5-episode run as it gets, though I'd put forward
Captain's Holiday Tin Man Hollow Pursuits The Most Toys Sarek
as my personal fave - not as many undisputed classics, but I love each of them (and I'd take any of them over A Matter of Perspective).

Very sad. She also kicked off her screen acting career in Trek, with Enterprise.
For all that I disliked Picard S2, her performance as the Borg Queen was excellent.

Do we know why? Were recent ratings any good?
I haven't watched S4 yet, I kind of lost interest, and it feels like people talk about it now much less than they did during seasons 1 & 2.

Paramount, like the other streamers, is currently purging a lot of stuff as they cut costs as they try to have these things actually make money. The days of streamers having unlimited cheque books to make tons of stuff have passed.
I rarely watch much new streaming shows as I can't be arsed with the pattern of: 'BIG EXCITING NEW SHOW! OK, WE CANNED IT QUICKLY! LOOK! OVER THERE! ANOTHER NEW SHOW!' and so on.
Old Man Burns likes shows to have long runs.
Still, in any context, 5 short seasons for a streaming show is a very long run. Sigh.
Whether current cost cutting has anything to do with Disco ending...I have no idea. Not enough information in the public domain to know.
I presume Disco S5 being moved to 2024 is so that we don't have two Trek shows ending in the same year, which may not look good for the brand.
Who knows!
Will admit to being disappointed by this news.
I would now be very surprised to see any live action Treks last beyond three seasons of ten episodes each. I suspect Picard is the new template.

I suspect its more that disco has just run its course. And with the likely cap of 3 live action shows a year, if they still have Michelle Yeoh under contract now is the time to cash in on that show.
Personally I'm not convinced of three and done either, in picards case that feels more like Stewarts call and possibly that fact amazon have international distribution on it. Plus it really seems like there'll be something spun out of it whether that's Titan, Stargazer, Enterprise f or g, Seven, Laforge Jr or something else.
Trek fans have too much loyalty to show for it to make sense for paramount to chop and change needlessly.

Very much agreed. Add to that that Star Trek is literally the backbone of Paramount+, right now. None of their other original programming will get people to subscribe or stay subscribed. I liked Halo, but I didn't subscribe for that, nor will I stay for that.
Also, Paramount have said in the past that they want the number of (Star Trek) shows to be in production to be a maximum of five. And they have also said that they have a backlog of ideas ready to move forward once they feel that the running shows have reached the end of the stories they want to tell. And yeah, they need to cash in on Yeoh sooner rather than later. She was already the biggest outside star any trek show had ever managed to get as a semi-permanent cast member before Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. So it's almost definite that the Section 31 series they been teasing for a while, will move forward. It's also very likely that like Boga said, something will spin off of Picard.

Possibly, though the streamer's financial positions are very different even compared to a year ago so internal positions on how many Trek shows run, etc may also have shifted. We shall see.
