G gave me a couple of screen grabs as I was mentioning the blu-ray I have there are some noticeable dust/debris around these scenes.

Not just the vocals, it's not heavier it's muddier. The original guitars are pin-sharp these are noticeably muddier with the distortion being too much. Sorry, I love the normal tune but this is a mess.

The vocals and the guitar playing on it utterly suck monkey balls. There's a video on youtube of Ernie Petrangelo covering his own song on guitar and it's much much better. If I had a week to transcribe the music, and a tank full of helium I could knock out a better version

Vocals were what ruined it for me, so weak compared to the original.
I didn't even know the TF version was censored lyrics, so hearing original lines also felt very wrong.

Same. Slightly peeved it didn't drop just a little bit in price, but no matter. I will start the Christmas holiday with that next weekend.

I'm sure the new transfer will make it worthwhile. I think now is the time to assemble the G1 Movie wave toys from their various homes in preparation. First time I'll have had them all out together having added the last few missing ones over the last couple of years.

Steelbook Blu-Ray arrived.
Extra features are nice, although the animated storyboards are not a patch on the bit that Dave and I did for TFNation this year.

The transfer is pretty good.
Pin sharp and you have the option of widescreen or full frame in the two discs.
Also the digital version you get is not ultraviolet but an iTunes code.

Widescreen is just cropped from full screen for this isn't it? I mean, the full screen version is the 'proper' one?
|

Post by The Doctor on Dec 13, 2016 20:09:55 GMT
Widescreen is indeed cropped. The film was animated in full screen and matted for theatrical presentation in theatres so newer home video widescreen versions show it closer to how it was presented at the time though do miss detail. While unusual, some films are made that way. 'Babe' is another example.
I would speculate it was animated in full screen as home video/tv formats of the time were in 4:3 so perhaps that was where the makers thought it would make most money?

So to clarify: it's an unusual example where both aspect ratios are 'correct'.
