My quest to have a booze-free year is nearly at an end. My last tipple was the legendary Burns Gin And Coke on 31/12/22.
I hadn't planned for a booze-free year for any particular reason. I had just noticed around Easter that I hadn't been bothering about having any. Therefore, I made a childish bet with myself to see if I could last a year.
Been very easy, actually, but then I had (not long before pandemic times) previously had a period were I had not touched a drop for roughly 2.5 years but that was enforced due to the amount of meds I was on!

I've had almost no alcohol at all for nearly a year. I might have had one or two pints across the whole year but apart from that I just...haven't. Not for lack of opportunity - there is a bottle of Vodka, several cans of guinness and four bottles of Corona in the cupboards. But between the fact that I don't drink on a school night, and the fact that it doesn't agree with my medication anyway I haven't really felt like drinking.
It's not that I am tee-total or making any particular effort to not drink, I just...don't...

Today broke me. Tired crotchety children plus unbelievable workload = glass of wine earned.

I went for a 500ml bottle of San Miguel. So tired I can hardly keep my eyes open trying to watch Ncuti on Graham Norton.

First time I have had the confidence to be in a pub on a Friday night since before Covid. Had a very nice pizza and a couple of hot chocolates.

Work Christmas do on Thursday. Started 1.30pm, I quit about 11pm. Felt fragile Friday morning. Still went into the office and enjoyed my bacon roll and coffee. No sign of any other colleagues. Packed it in at 2pm for a haircut and cinema. Completely fine this morning.

Five pints of Peroni with a few colleagues, followed by stumbling home in the rain, buying and consuming an entire six-pack of Tesco's sausage rolls on the way, but still capable of putting the bins out. And this morning... so far so good, surprisingly.
Today: last day in work for four weeks!

About 90 mins into the event at church the pain levels rose considerably making it clear a tummy incident was coming.
Thankfully I lasted and we made it home Ok but OH MY GOODNESS.......
