I'll hopefully be doing a *LIVE* review of the G2 books as they are read. Possibility for a drinking game there, where you have to drink every time someone dies. (Solid drinking, basically. ) I've never needed to use them on previous occasions, but are Mr Turnbull's and Mr Thurgood's mobile numbers the same as they were a year ago? Martin

Is it one drink every time any sentient dies in which case we may need larger glasses.......... Mine is not, due to my 'phone keeling over and die on me. I shall provide you with my new number just in case. Karl

AGENDA FOR ACTION!
IIRC our base of operations will be Fountainbridge, a short walk from Haymarket station. There we have the pub, pizza hut and the bowling/arcade place all in one unit. Something for everyone.
I do feel a trip to the city farm is in order though on Saturday. It's only 10 minutes away so it would be foolish not to visit this sadly obscure local wonder. Also: free. Anyone scared of farm animals can hide in the pub.
Optional is the walk to South Bridge in the opposite direction to The Piemaker to experience the awesome Tatti Dogs. FPE is beside it. Might be something for Sunday morning?
The pub opens at mid-day btw.
Current weather forecast is for cold, and by golly so far this week it has been cold. Wrap up warm.
For those of you about on Friday, work something out.

I am sure that we will think of something. If all else fails I can introduce folk to the Fountainbridge pub for a quiet beverage or whatever. Karl

Thanks for PMing your mobile number, Karl, and saying you'll try to meet my train. If there are any major delays (my luck must run out one day) I don't want you hanging around for me forever though, so do you want to give me a name and street for the pub your are likely to be subsequently ensconcing yourselves in?
See you tomorrow!

I can formally announce that, all being well, in addition to the mighty events that are the Yomtov Factor and Nick's Quiz of Doom this Scotcon shall also play host to the first installment of Kaptain Karl's Kwizz of Mild Peril!
Who knows, you may even win a mostly acceptable prize.
Addendum:- Martin, the hostelry I was thinking of repairing to is called McGowans and it is at a place called Fountainpark which if memory serves is on Dundee Street. (I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will correct me if I err).
(That said, I don't think that we have really gotten as far as deciding on a definite plan for Friday evening, t'was but a thought that had crossed my mind as it serves food as well so might be handy for sustenance of the evening).

No, you can't be. _I've_ bagged getting in at that time. Seriously, you wouldn't perchance be on the 12:20 from Birmingham New Street, arriving Edinburgh Haymarket, 16:17? Martin

Just out of curiosity how much is it by train from Birmingham to Edinburgh? If I ever go to Scotcon any time in the future that might be my preferred method of transport.

Wow it is expensive! Checking The Train Line website, it's like £100 each way. I've got no right to moan about the £14 return I just paid for I suppose.
