Spearhead from Space - 5. It has many nice things but never really gels and the first two episodes are a bore. Doctor Who and the Silurians - 10. I love the score and the head wobbling. The Ambassadors of Death - 10. Amazing stuff. Inferno - 1000000000000!!! The best surviving TV serial in 49 years. Yes, even better than Androzani.
Terror of the Autons - 7. Not as good as its reputation suggests but still great fun. The Mind of Evil - 10. Beware the Keller machine! The Claws of Axos - 5. Despite the Delgado, it falls flat. And Pigbin Josh is barely in it! Colony in Space - 9. I make no apologies. I love Colony in Space, even though it's a bit racist. The Dæmons - 10. AZAL! AZAL!

And never will be again! Andy I was expecting to hate it, but it skips along at an interesting pace, with its own dynamics! It was very enjoyable! Meanwhile I was expecting to love Enemy of the World because I like oddball stories but no, I fell asleep.

Spearhead from Space - 8 Doctor Who and the Silurians - 4 - goes on too long, slow The Ambassadors of Death - 9 Any other season it would have been best story. This year however..... odd voting for this before I've seen the DVD Inferno - 10. Well actually 10,000,000,000 cos it really is that good
Terror of the Autons - 8 used to really love it but cooled a bit in recent years The Mind of Evil - 8 the real proof will come in colour in a few months The Claws of Axos - 5 never really grabbed me Colony in Space - 6 grown on me since the DVD The Daemons - 9 again DVD has improved it for me.

I have you agree with you on Terror, Phil. At one point it would have been 9/10 for me. Not sure if I watched it too much (It was the second VHS I ever owned!) but perhaps familiarity breeds contempt. Still great though, just not perfect.

Thinking about THE MIND OF EVIL, a large part of the atmosphere of it works for me because of the black and white. I really wonder what it will be like in colour. Similarly, I wonder what THE AMBASSADORS! OF DEATH will be like in full colour.

We'll find out with Ambassadors tmw..... but I always thought that the colour bits were better.
The problem with Mind is it's always been *just* B&W

Spearhead from Space - 6 (the new format gets off to a rocky start, there are some fun things in there but overall a bit lacking) Doctor Who and the Silurians - 8 (It is probably an episode to an episode and a half-overlong overall but I love the Silurians and it has proper a proper ethical divide between the Doctor and the Brigadier - one where they both have a valid point). The Ambassadors of Death - 10. Points. Inferno - 10 (Simply marvelous - one of two stories I think of when I think of the Pertwee-era)
Terror of the Autons - 8 (A fun romp, with the debut of one of the great Who villians) The Mind of Evil - 9 (But I'm open to revising this upwards if it still works in colour). The Claws of Axos - 4 (Falls apart without the slightest provocation. Inoffensive but it feels like it is going through the motions). Colony in Space - 6 (powers along when the Delgado is on-screen, drops into neutral the rest of the time) The Dæmons - 8 (I know it makes very little sense, but everyone plays it with some real conviction and so it gets away with it).

Day of the Daleks - 9. Mark deducted for dodgy Dalek voices and repeating the sting from the previous episode The Curse of Peladon - 8 best ice warriors story does something different with them The Sea Devils - 7 another annoying politician and elements of the Silurians reheated The Mutants - 4 just goes wrong The Time Monster - 2 worst Unit & Delgado story by some distance. Awful.
The Three Doctors - 9 so much fun Carnival of Monsters - 10 fab effort by Holmes and the first Pertwee story I saw. Another that's just fun to watch. Frontier in Space - 7. Loose the middle two episode and it would score much much higher. they're wasted space Planet of the Daleks - 9 Not perfect but a pretty decent Dalek story. Yeah it's a greatest hits package but this is DW's 10th anniversary party season so if you're going to do something like this here's the ideal point. The Green Death - 7 perfectly fine but drags a bit for me and doesn't tick the boxes.

Just Karl to catch up now, so let's power on to Pertwee's final season Apologise, the afflicted are lagging behind slightly. Supah Boosters, Ikimeasu! Day of the Daleks - 9 - (a good time paradox story with bonus Daleks) The Curse of Peladon - 7 (enjoyable but somehow doesn't really stand out of the pack for me) The Sea Devils - 8 (It is a fun run around with great adventure stuff - works really well on an episodic basis (which is how I usually watch my classic Who) The Mutants - 3 (Oh dear. Oh dear) The Time Monster - 7 (Makes not a lick of sense, but there is a verve to some of the cast that makes it fun to watch) The Three Doctors - 9 (OMEGA is ludicrously pompous, the Doctors can't even get on with each other... It is a classic anniversary team-up story - about as plausible as Dan Dare teaming up with Flash Gordon, and the same kind of ludicrous fun). Carnival of Monsters - 8 (First Pertwee story I ever saw. Odd, uncharacteristic of his era but always thoroughly entertains me.) Frontier in Space - 7 (needs tightening, but I love so many elements of it) Planet of the Daleks - 6 (too much fiddle-faddling around in the first episode and too much of a sense of it being tinker-toyed together from existing parts) The Green Death - 8 (A great computer villian threatens stereotype land as a byproduct of wanting to time-and-motion study humanity into slavery. Exactly the sort of threat made for the Pertwee Doctor). Right, I shall return with my ratings for the last Pertwee season after a pause for cogitation. Karl

I'm glad Dinosaurs seems to be getting a hell of a lot more respect since it came out on DVD. It used to be 'the one with the black and white episode and the crap dinosaurs'. Really though, the dinosaurs don't FEEL that much worse than any other rubbishy effect, and the story's great. It was like discovering a lost classic.

The Time Warrior - 6 decent SJS and Sontaran debut. But somehow lacking Invasion of the Dinosaurs - 9. Biased. cracking stuff Death to the Daleks - 7 ish. It's main problem is the traps sequence which is overused afterwards The Monster of Peladon - 3 starts bad. Recovers when the Ice Warriors show up but you've lost any interest by then. Planet of the Spiders - 3 Starts well. I can even put up with episode 2..... just. but I loose the will to live when we reach Metabelis 3.

What is with all this dislike for Spiders You guys

What is with all this dislike for Spiders Never liked them, I have a similar reaction to them as Henry Jones Jr does to snakes. Oh, you mean Metebelis Spiders..... Prepare for your annoyance to deepen:- The Time Warrior - 6 (I want to like it more, it has Linx and Irongron, and a decent debut for SJS... but in the end it just feels a bit of a damp squib.) Invasion of the Dinosaurs - 8 (never gave it much thought until I saw it on VHS. Enjoyable plot. The dinosaurs may be a bit rubbish but they are entertaining Chewits Monster versus UNIT. Genius) Death to the Daleks - 3 (It isn't the Daleks that let this one down really. It is the humans. They are so hopelessly dense that you start to wonder if the Space Corp isn't specifically recruiting from a defined IQ band. Arguably my least favourite Dalek story.) The Monster of Peladon - 6 (It is alright -as a rollicking four part adventure it would have been great. Unfortunately it is six parts, and this makes it drag) Planet of the Spiders - 5 (an object lesson in the wheels coming off to be honest. The Spiders seem somewhat ill-defined as a threat - one of the problems of villans with random magic powers - that the whole thing feels a little arbitary at times). Karl

The Time Warrior was one of those stories that grew on me. I didn't like it first time round, but it seems to get better and better.
The only hope for Spiders now is if Ralph gives is 20/10!
