Us three bigger people took the smallest member of family to see The Movie at the cinema. Yes it was very good, well written, exciting, emotional, in all the right places. MLP in general really is written very very well, speaking as a parent.
And Pinky Pie remains my hero.

But more interestingly, a very 80s style movie, in that it isn't some sort of reboot or re-imagining for cinema, in a different style or different cast, just a bigger episode of the tv show with celebrity special guests.

So I watched the extras (there are a fair few), and they were saying that most of their budget and efforts went into emoting. Their TV budget is so limited that each pony has only four or so expressions, but the increased budget for this, they really wanted to break the bank and really have the characters emote realistically.
I really liked Emily Bunt's character, and her performance, so much so that it really makes me sad. I'd love to see the character again in the series, but I doubt she'd come back for a TV show appearance. Meaning they'd either recast, or we'll never hear from the character again. Nor Zoe Saldana. (I kinda feel like Michael Peña would, and the two sea pony voices)

Very good point, Mr Blue'! Yes the fact it wasn't any kind of re-imagining was very welcome. Another example of how well written it was. {Spoiler}I thought the fact it was Pinky that had the big argument with Twilight was very clever writting.
