Now that I own the Mystic/Vision Quest wave in the plastic I can certainly say Playmates really have gotten lazy. Compare these to the original 2012 wave and the quality is definitely different. The head-droppin turtles are also worse and the joints fall off. Sad times, as I really want to like the Mystics. I will touch the paint up on these.
Halfshell Heroes Baxter VS Slash, Tigerclaw & Newtrilizer and Spiderbytez * Snakeweed are now also mine. Or Lincoln's rather.

In my area, the new packaging launch is it. Turflydle is the newest thing I've found. And he's been out for a long time.
Still can't find Karai.
Much as I appreciate them trying to keep EVERYTHING available from wave one on, I think it's hurt them in the long run.

Quite a few new figures are set to come out. Mostly based on season 4.
Figures like Dark Beaver, Monkey Brains and Attila are listed on Smyths already as if they are due to come out. Playmates have just gotten lazy again.
Had no trouble finding Karai. Mondo is listed on Amazon US along with some other pleasant names.
Would be interested to know what stuff is in B&M
Also now have the recently released Wave 1 'Fred Wolf' repaints. Top stuff. I am in the minority that likes these though.

In my area, the hero masher knockoff line seems to have killed it. They swamp everything and don't seem to move. The packaging is so similar to the mainline that employees don't know the difference and mix them (and they're different prices).
On top of that, the movie line has been reissued in the new packaging mainline which seems to be another mistake. We're drawing closer and closer to the second movie, and further away from the limited lifespan those toys had to start with.

Mutations has indeed delivered a crushing blow. Not big on those at all aside from the 2 MASK-like vehicle packs. The transforming vehicles are also going to pop up in the Halfshell Heroes spinoff line with thankfully no take apart figures. Fred Wolf Repaints of Wave 1 I am quite happy with. People have been negative about the paint jobs, but my batch are ok. Not bad for buying online rather than in the plastic. |

Noticed in TRU today they were clearing Wave 8 Nickleodeon Turtles, the main four, at a fiver each. Noticed very shortly afterwards they were in the back of my car. Another tick on the miscellaneous acquisitions list.

It'd be kinda cool to see the mega mutants/ridable giant mutants make a comeback. Like to see an update for both Needlenose as Killer Bee, along with some new ones.

I found a sword from the dimention x rebrand, but that's it. I've not found anything newer than Karai, and it took a year+ to do that.

I meanwhile had read the original US comics some years previously and was going "What's tips hero rubbish? I want Ninjas!"

I always found the UK censorship surrounding the TMNT to be absolutely insane.
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles is just really clunky, and genuinely makes no sense.
Then the whole thing with nunchucks, while not as silly as the ban on the word Ninja, is pretty bonkers, given nunchucks are really not that much easier for a kid to get ahold of than a sword or dagger. If anything a chain weapon that they liked to reimagine him with is much easier and more dangerous to replicate with a plain old chain.
I read a list a few years back of all the censorship changes over the TMNT and it just leaves me flummoxed.

Nunchuks there seem to be a particular sensitivity too, I can remember a Doctor Who VHS getting edited in the 80s to remove them!

They were also cut out of all of Bruce Lee's movies, even so far as having the poster to Enter The Dragon edited to arm him with what appears to be a french loaf. And those were adult-rated films.
If I recall, it had something to do with people making cheap nunchuk-inspired weapons back in the mid 70s. And even cheap copies that are easy to make could be deadly with minimum effort.

BIG TMNT DAY!!!
Earlier when I went to TRU, I found none other than Napoleon Bonafrog!!!
Why I almost bought him out of sheer principal.
But Napoleon is not a character I particularly like. And there are a ton of guys I like a lot better but still haven't gotten around to buying (partly out of spite of shelfwarmer syndrom at this point).
Tonight I made a late night trip to an out of the way Walmart. All walmarts have TMNT on sale presently, but this one had them all discounted even further!
But who do I see? Mozar the Triceraton and Lord Dregg!
I start digging around hoping to find Mondo Gecko, and anyone else newer than Rocksteady and Bebop. Low and behold I find my second ever Karai!
Nothing else new, though. But I took advantage of the extra sale to snag Rocksteady, Bebop, Razar, Mozar, Slash, and Tigerclaw.
Gonna go back next weekend and hope the sale continues.

The name is great. I just hate Napoleon Dynamite. I mean loathe it. And I'm extremely disappointed that's the direction they went in this series.
I don't think the name is really that low an effort, but I think this version of the character is.

Oooh come on, they just stuck 'FROG' in there. All the punk frogs had silly names like that. Uh, it was Napoleon BonaFROG, Ghenghis FROG, Rasputin the Mad FROG and uh, someone else but I guess it was another FROG put in there. It doesn't even rhyme or be a frog-related pun or anything. But so bad it's good. Here are some more ideas for frog names: ChurchFROG HanniFROG Julius FROG George W FROG FROG Clinton FROG Cassidy and the Sundance FROG Vlad the FROG They can have those for free. I'm on fire! |
