My making of ESB harback is rogue, Amazon said expected yesterday and the tracking information goes dead when it was passed from the couriers to Royal Mail. Progress on the Making of ESB book: 31 Dec 2010 10:33:00 AM Gourock Inverclyde UK Order has been handed over to the carrier and is in transit 07 Jan 2011 03:55:02 PM North West Distribution Centre Arrival Scan 08 Jan 2011 05:40:12 AM South West Distribution Centre Arrival Scan
So a week in Inverclyde..... if the post is that shafted still in that direction that may explain where the other two Amazon parcels are. *Finally*with me. Now what about those DVDs Poirot DVDs, sent by Amazon 30/12 now with me

I plan to go back to the sorting office tomorrow after work for a 'chat'. They took my number on Saturday but no-one called me today... -Ralph Duration of this evening's trip: 1 hour, 50 mins for **** all. I was told that the 3 items were not missing but had "never been there". I pointed out that I had left a note with my number on Saturday asking for a call back and that my note had specifically requested that if the items were found that there was no point trying to redeliver them as I am out all day at work and would just come get them at the sorting office. I was told no call had been made because there were no items. I left a 2nd note with the same info and was assured a redelivery attempt "would never be made" In addition, I queried a fourth Recorded Delivery item which was now also "missing". I asked if a manager could call me back tomorrow and was told to come back on Thursday if no-one phoned me... Upon getting home, I found a 'you weren't in' card stating a "second attempt" had been made on 3 of the items. But how could a second attempt be made if they never had the items in the first place? And where did the 4th one go? I'm starting to get quite anxious and stressed over this now. Firstly, because I now have circa £150 of expensive stuff I may never get and also because I'm worrying my mail is being interefered with. And making trips at that distance for nowt is a pain in the arse. -Ralph

That sounds like the sort of uselessness I have run into from Royal Mail once in a while. Either they paid no attention to your "do not redeliver" request, so the parcels weren't there when the bloke looked, or he just couldn't be bothered to look at all so he thought it was easier just to say "no such thing" than use any energy.
I have run into something similar a couple of times myself and it is very aggravating.
You do seem to have run into quite a catalogue of stupidity and ineptitude from Royal Mail of late.

I will certainly be reducing my online shopping quite significantly. The hassle is just starting to turn it from a fun thing to do to a major headache I could do without. I'll get stuff from brick and mortar stores or ask friends to pick up stuff online because over the last few months it's getting to the point where I can't rely on getting anything that won't fit through the letterbox without hassles.

Can't say as I blame you there to be honest, not after the way it has been going recently.

They either can 't be arsed looking or know the stuff has been filched and are trying to avoid paying compensation. Either way they are arseholes.

Today we had a knock at the door as a postman turned up with almost all my missing items: An Inception BD, a Sherlock BD and my replacement set of Neilson DVDs.

Everything seems to be getting delivered fine at our place... except for the Kapow stuff. Getting stuff delivered to the house is always a nightmare, recently I've been having all my packages delivered to work. Luckily no-one seems to mind!

I'll get stuff from brick and mortar stores Yes! Let's hear it for proper shops where you can pick your book or DVD or whatever off the shelf and make sure it's not damaged before you buy it, and return it quickly and without worry if it turns out to be faulty when you get home. Worth paying a slightly higher price (if it is higher) for the peace of mind, I say. Martin

The problem, however, is that the main reason why I buy stuff online is because they are items either not in sale in bricks-and-mortar stores or not sold in this country at all (which accounts for 100% of my missing packages). Though from now I'll have to ask friends to make such purchases for me. The mail service is now too unreliable and stressful to use.
In other news, I did not receive the promised managerial call from Royal Mail. I tried to call direct several times during the day but no-one ever picked up the phone.
Meanwhile, a fifth item has gone walkabout.

I usually get up at 7:30am on weekdays. I was woken by a loud commotion at the door at 6:55am approx. I thought someone was trying to get in and grabbed something heavy.
Fortunately, it was merely the world's most unhappy looking postie. He had missing parcels 1-3 which he really, really wanted to give to me.
It would seem my repeated requests not to re-deliver if they turned up have been ignored but I'm past caring. At least I have them.
The battle resumes at the sorting office after work once more for parcels 4-5.

There were more twists and turns to come.
Package 4, which had for the last few days shown up on tracking as 'come back later' was now showing as 'we tried to deliver today at 8.11am'. Which was a lie. Firstly because I had a delivery today (of other items) at 6.55am and that at 8.11am I was quietly eating my breakfast cereal in the livingroom and would have heard the door/buzzer.
So off I went again to the sorting office after work. Duration of trip: 2hrs 10 mins.
A very helpful woman at the office did her very best to help me. Parcel 5 initially could not be found until she made a 2nd attempt. I was then told that package 4 had not come back yet. I explained my issues of late and pointed to my 2 previous 'do not redeliver' notes I had left, which just so happened to be lying on the reception desk. They now had 'SPEAK TO POSTIE' written on them in large bold letters. She went off to have another look, turned up empty then had a 3rd look somewhere else.
It transpired that all my parcels were now automatically being marked for redlivery (explaining how they kept going missing) as I had asked RM to do so. I pointed out that I had not, nor never would have made such a request as I am out at work during the day. Package 4 was now found. The woman lamented that she had been a postie for 18 years and that there were "one or two bad ones in the system, oh that postie is a bad one, going to be spoken to" in a stern take-no-shit manner.
VICTORY!
All I need now are the 3 comics posted out by a reliable ebay seller before Chrimbo to turn up...

With regards to the comics that never turned up, the seller (Disposable Heroes Comics) remarked "assholes" with regards to RM and swiftly refunded the cost, no questions asked. Which was nice of them.
Thankfully, of all the things that could go missing, these were easily replaced with a quick jaunt to FPG.

Used them a bit, seem good, if a little slow at dispatch - got my Heroic Age: X-Men handbook a week after release. To be fair, it was supposed to be out on the 30th December, but various shipping woes meant the UK shops didn't get the book until the 12th January.

The torment is back!
Two regular delivery items sent in December (one from Japan, one from the US) appeared to have had delivery attempts last Thursday and Friday. But I got a '2nd attempt' card today. Did I request redelivery? Did I fuck!
Here we go again...

I've been watching this thread with interest. I've been surprised at the trouble people have had. I obvously sent a lot of post recently and found Royal Mail to be very good, even in the face of the awful weather during their peak period. I had more queries about late parcels than normal this Christmas but as far as I know, all those parcels did arrive in time (apart from just one that seems to have disappeared altogether). I haven't had any domestic queries since Christmas; I've had a few foreigners get in touch but again, these parcels all seem to have turned up. All my incoming mail turned up in reasonable time before Christmas; after Christmas there was one package that was posted on the 31st and took a week to reach me, which was the worst problem I had over the holiday period. However, there are currently two things that were posted to me on the 14th and haven't arrived yet and another for which the Royal Mail Track & Trace shows the ominous "Item... was posted... on 12/01/11 and is being progressed through our network for delivery." First Class service, apparently....

Well, the two from the 14th arrived this morning. The delay on one can probably be explained by the sender writing the return address so that it was more prominent than mine!

I am now getting mail again, though with about a week's delay. Recorded delivery is still ****ed up though, to the point where I now ask for things to be sent standard delivery instead. Crazy.

My other AWOL parcel arrived this morning. The postman didn't have anything to say when I pointed out it had been sent on the 12th. But then, what could he say? I'm sure the delay wasn't his fault.
That's two mornings in a row that a post van has turned up at seven. It mus be a special late post run.

I got a returned A4 Enveloped letter in the post today which was a job application I sent back in September.
According to the sticker, the letter arrived at its destination on December 21st. Another sticker placed on it demanded a £1 handling fee too.
I payed enough postage to send the app off, but it baffles me that the envelope has somewhat been in limbo for 3 months. I am waiting at home for a garaunteed reply to my application and got nothing.
Pretty angry...
