Hooray. Threw the Help Us pics into a thread on their own. Also with my Shattered Glass colours of the image.

Not too keen on it going EPIC!!! from the jump, but the idea of Hot Rod being mentored as a new leader - and not becoming Rodimus when he takes the role - interests me. Imagine if the original comic WAS still going all this time but it still had to follow the 'rules' and introduce every/most of the new toy lines Hasbro put out over the years, but in the same ongoing story (like they did with the Headmasters etc - no separate universes or reboots allowed) It would have been utterly mental. And AWESOME.

So, is this actually happening or is it just torture for Ralph?

Furman is talking very much the present tense about this, as an actual series rather than a pitch. It may mean nothing more than that he is "in the moment" a bit about it. But it certainly sounds like he is very engaged with it, even after an initial knock-back, which is good to see.

The Grimlock idea is an interesting one.

The botcon response was... odd. I kind of got the sense it really wasn't part of their plans but was forcing its way in, due to fan demand. As a result Chris Ryall came across almost resentful of it, it certainly got more interest than the run up to 125 the were focussed on.

Have they confirmed that they are actually seriously looking at doing it then? If so then that is good news. Karl

It wasn't quite that definite, I think with Schmidt leaving any announcement either way will be a while off, but I think it is being considered.

Hopefully IDW will really start to take the proposition seriously when the petition reaches 5K signatures.

As a result Chris Ryall came across almost resentful of it, it certainly got more interest than the run up to 125 the were focussed on. Basically, I think Ryall is a bit disappionted that lots of talk is about 'old stuff' rather than the new stuff that he wants to do. Like he's thinking 'why do people want another issue of the old comic and not one of our new issues'. Can kind of see what he would mean if that is the case, but I'm one of many not that interested in new stuff because it's just not good enough.

Same here James.
I enjoyed the new stuff Furman was doing, but between McCarthy and Costa they pissed away my interest in their ongoing universe. The writing was dreadful.

Ditto here, James. And I think you're spot on with Mr Ryall's reaction.

I can understand his reaction. It could be annoying to have folk asking for a continuation of a comic published by another company that finished 20 years ago when energy is being put into promoting their own new stuff.
Petition currently at 2490. Which is nice, but disappointingly small considering the fanbase size. I do think it needs at least double that to get serious attention.
But I live in hope!
If nothing else, this has shown that the Marvel series is still as vital and current as it always was back in the day.

I think that if anyone reboots an existing franchise rather than create something completely from scratch, and wants the automatic sales benefits that come from brand recognition and affection for the characters and concepts taken from previous incarnations, then they have to accept constant comparison with those previous incarnations as part of the deal. And however good the new material, they'll always have to accept that the recognition for creating and pioneering the concepts and characters belongs rightly with someone else.
The only way to be judged solely in relation to your own work is avoid being seen to take anything - characters, concepts or ideas - from pre-existing work.

Am I the only person who really doesn't want #81? I would rather IDW just turned the ongoing over to Furman/Roche/Roberts and let them run with it

I actually felt no need for the Marvel run to continue when IDW took over the licence. But after a few years of soft reboots and variable writing, I'm much more warm to the idea and I like Furman's premise.

A return to the Marvel universe is the only thing that would make me buy a Furman comic again. Though I'd rather see Andy T's strip version of 'Another Time and Place' completed!
I'll buy James R's issues of the ongoing series because I'm interested in the writer, but unfortunately I have zero interest in the continuity he'll be writing in.

The last time I heard people calling for a continuity continuation was when Dreamwave got the license and everyone was used (thanks to Beast Wars) of old continuities carrying on. Nobody was asking for this from IDW, it's only now after AHM and the ongoing that people are thinking "what a good idea". IDW did a GI Joe continuation, they only have themselves to blame here.
