How do I download audio files in mp3 and/or audiobook format on to the Ipad? For example, I try to do this on the Big Finish site and just get a message saying Safari can't do it. It's infuriating!

You can"t.
You need to import them to the iPad via iTunes.

So do I need to download them on another system and port them to the Ipad? How stupid!

IIRC it's something to do with Safari being in it's own "box" to prevent anything nasty being downloaded onto the iPad

It's just stupid that I can download audio files onto my desktop but not the Ipad.

IIRC it's something to do with Safari being in it's own "box" to prevent anything nasty being downloaded onto the iPad To be honest it's got fuck all to do with that despite what some might say and everything to do with Apple trying to ensure that as many files as possible are filtered through (and ideally purchased from) their own software eco-system. Have to say my iPad gets not much love these days thanks to the Galaxy Note 2. Will end up with a Nexus 7 inch tablet I think later this year then the iPad be gone. Andy

Burns can now read 2000ad on his iPad thanks to Phil.
In the meanhap some Phil conducted research into iPad charging is yielding some surprising results.
If you recall I was having difficulty getting my iPad to charge and blamed the lead.
After a while I realised the problems were occurring when it was plugged into the multisocket behind the bed. Plug it in behind the door and it's fine.
I'm at Mum's at the moment. I plugged the iPad into charge, it came on, it said not connected, it turned off.
Repeat six or so times
Phil moves the charger from the right socket on the plugs behind his bed to the left one. iPad happily starts charging.
WTF? ? ? ?
Are iPads socket sensitive?

iPads are not. I would suggest a problem somewhere with the plug, lead or socket on said iPad.

Having been playing about with someone else's keyboard dock with my IPad2 I have come to the conclusion that they are invaluable in terms of forum interaction and stuff - the fact that I can type five times faster on the keyboard dock than I can with the darned on-screen keyboard is a not inconsiderable factor.
So, does anyone have any recommendations in that line if thing? It doesn't have to be an integrated case/keyboard thingy, because I am not forseeing using it on the move, it is more for use as a static dock.

The one I have I got from the Apple store when the iPad2 was current, it was about £35 quid iirc so might be a wee bit cheaper now given they've changed the connecter for later generation iPads.

Does anyone know how to change my password for my Apple Id, ie what is used for Itunes purchases, etc? I need to change it urgently due to Comixology security breach and am shitting myself that my account will now be reamed. I can't find how to do it. I found one webpage but it kept asking me what car I owned as a security question. Never owning a fucking car. Going fucking demented with this shit.

Changing your apple password is easiest in iTunes on a desktop.

I now have a problem where the sign-in box ie when buying an app or whatever keeps popping up on the Ipad when I am doing other things ie on Twitter or browsing the web. How do I make it stop this?
I wish to fuck Ipads had a pdf manual installed on them.

It would appear the reason for that is usually that a download from the app store or itunes is trying to happen. Probably an update and it needs the password.
There is a manual you can get but it's via iBooks.

Now here's a thing....
I accidentally left my iPad charger block in London when I came home today.
In order to get the stupid thing to work I plugged the lead into one of the many USB/mains plugs I have that give a Not Charging message on the iPad figuring I'd run it off mains power to read off in bed.
I went away and had dinner, When I came back upstairs to do bed for Jonathan I thought the charge bar had gone up even though it still said Not Charging. I went back downstairs for an evening of TV and came back to find the iPad still claiming it's Not Charging but registering nearly 100% charge.
Is the Not Charging message actually a big lie in some cases?

It could be.
Might be worth unplugging it from the mains and seeing what the battery readout says?

I've put off updating the Ipad Ios thingy for quite same time as it still ran the older (far superior) version of the BBC News app. But now it no longer supports the Iplayer app (which I hardly use but need as Doctor Who is back on soon) so through gritted teeth I must finally accept the update to the new shitter IOS.
Ralph deeply dislikes having 'the user experience improved' when he is quite happy with the old one!
