One hour into Black Orchid and it's still stuck on the endless and pointless cricket game. Still over 4 hours to go. This may break me.

I'm sorry, a 1 hour Doctor Who story stretched to a 5 hour audiobook? ?? 5 hours and 15 mins! All the audio versions of the Target books are unabridged readings and so as the Black Orchid novel was standard Target length... Oh, I didn't mean that cricket was pointless, merely that it is pointless in this story. In audio terms we get about 15 mins of Mystery. Then the Doctor plays a cricket game for an hour, in agonising detail while the plot (which had barely begun) goes nowhere. It wouldn't matter what he was playing! And this after the tops THE ANDROIDS OF TARA audiobook. I recall DWM being sniffy about it but I enjoyed it. It's a new novelisation by David Fisher rather than using the Uncle Tewwance Target which is of course a crime but I still enjoyed this version. Simon 'minimum effort' Power can't even be arsed with extra effort with an audio original though and one of his trademark 10 seconds at most music stings is re-used from other releases! I enjoy these audios for the readings and the texts but he is the laziest sound designer on the planet. -Ralph

20 mins into Disc 3. Adric is still eating. NNNGHH. -Ralph My order from The Works has arrived. Apparently. Though I got an email this morning saying that Ghost Light was out of stock so they posted it without it (to be fair they refunded me, but I like to buy stuff in bulk to save on shipping!). Also the box has been left with a neighbour who I have not met and who doesn't seem to be in at all. Soon I will have my copy of Black Orchid though! D:

Big finish have reduced all their Ice Warriors stories to a fiver thissssss weekend. -Ralph Turns out I do own The Bride of Peladon, I did have to go and check, that's how memorable it must be! I guess I need to buy Mission to Magnus, Thin Ice and Prisoner of Peladon!

The Prisoner of Peladon is tops.
Talking of tops, the audiobook of Earthshock is brilliant! Some nice sound effects and Davison and Briggs are fabulous.

That would be amazing. Like in the deleted scenes for The Empire Strikes Back which features folk shouting: "BANG!" a lot.

re: THE MACRA TERROR serial soundtrack. The initial CD release used the Colin Baker narration from the tape release (moved around slightly in places). When the Lost TV Episodes cd sets were punted out, The Macra Terror was redone from scratch with new narration written and performed to bring it in line with other releases. I did want to hear it but without buying a boxset of stories I already had. I see it has now been released separately as a download for £4. Hurray. I must give it a spin. The previous narration was rather lacking in comparison to later releases of missing stories. www.audiogo.com/uk/doctor-who-the-macra-terror-tv-soundtrack-ian-stuart-black-gid-1011234-Ralph Listened to it today. Superb release. The quality of the soundtrack is much more dynamic and clear with the narration being somewhat better written. Got a vastly different experience from the story this time as it was so much easier to visualise what was going on and the story has improved somewhat for me. The previous two attempts were a bit of a chore to listen to in comparison. Well worth four quid of anyone's money. -Ralph

It's dreadful and as much as it pains me to say this: Colin's reading is really really bad! He's trying too hard to make it arch and funny.
