The only one that stuck with me was the one with the Black and White Guardians in ancient Egypt (was it??) but I felt there was a really interesting idea there that they just ignored

Do you mean the Arabian Nights-inspired one? That one was okay, quite fun at times. But the rest...

I see from DWM that there will be another BF DW vinyl release. This time HMV will be the retailer.
If you thought there was a feeding frenzy for the 1500 units for the Tom Baker release this is a Tennant story limited to...750 copies. Words fail me.

I don't get this either. What benefit does anyone get from this?

It will be scalped to oblivion within minutes. The most popular Doctor...a release which could sell outwith the usual hardcore fanbase...750 copies!!!
I can only hope this is a misprint in DWM!

750 doesn't sound commercially viable. How many discs do you need to press before you can break even?

It doesnt neccesarily need to be profitable, just to get people inside their nearest HMV. Having said that I doubt it costs very much at all in relation to selling price to make the records.
A bigger problem to me is that I'm more likely to spend money if I've succeeded in buying my exclusive item.
An even bigger problem is that if something seems too limited Im not even going to bother going out of my way to try and get it.

The Tennant one will be scalped to fuck.
Also, given it's HMV only - an absolute ballache to get considering how decimated that retail chain has been in recent years.

Just listened to King of Sontar while weeding the drive. Top stuff! Spoiler Even if it does veer a little too close to Genesis of the Daleks at the end with the whole, I can't justify killing them, the conversation with Leela afterwards is superbly written.

I quite enjoyed that one too. I vaguely remember feeling they overegged the threat towards the end, but it was still fun, and I think this one is the start of a bit of an arc for Leela?
She's generally been a bit of a highlight of BigFinish for me lately, even elevating some weaker stories. I recently listened to The Scorchies for the first time ("Jo is making a thing" took a while to shake), and am currently on The Romance of Crime, which is pretty decent so far. Also ordered a couple more Jago and Litefoot sets in the sale having recently finished series three.

I'd love it to get a radio/iplayer broadcast at some point so a wider audience can hear the series.

That would be great. It's something I'm definitely happy to recommend to non-Doctor Who fans.

More drive weeding today. Listened to Fourth Doc 3.2 White Ghosts, not brilliant but worth a listen for the ongoing development of Leela carried over from the last story, and then 3.3 The Crooked Man, which revisits an element of the Doctor's past and is a really good listen. First episode feels very Sapphire and Steel.

Short Trip available free as the winner of the 2017 Paul Spragg Memorial award: www.bigfinish.com/releases/v/landbound-1758Well worth a listen - nice third Doctor postscript to The Silurians that draws in many facets of his character. Didn't even notice my run this morning, I was enthralled.

Recent listens:
The Settling - thankfully a good 7th/Ace/Hex to wash away the bad taste left by the last one I listened to! Would have been better if they'd gone a bit easier on the incidental music, though. Oh, and points deducted for being nicely packaged with a bonus disc - but the bonus disc just being clips from DW spin-offs. Not even a behind-the-scenes!
The Council of Nicaea - another enjoyable historical. Bit didactic at times, but I guess that's what they should be. I think it's only the second I've heard with Erimem, and I find her really quite likable.
Mother Russia - enjoyed this a lot, especially the more historical early part. Picked up in the recent companion chronicles sale, looking forward to getting into some of the others.

Yes, other than getting Solitaire about the time I started getting into Big Finish I hadn't paid much attention to them until recently. In recent weeks I've listened to The Anachronauts and The Scorchies, and both were great. The other four I have waiting for me are:
The Forbidden Time The Jigsaw War The Apocalypse Mirror The Sleeping City

The Forbidden Time is still one of my Go-to Whodios for taking when I go on a long journey. There are many runs up and down the East and West coast lines that it has seen me through. (That and the Scorchies - after all, Cool Cat is Coooooollllll...) Karl
